No low seat option unless factory order?

I'm just after some advice here. I'm ordering up my new LC, and the dealer has managed to grab a 2014 model that's due in the country this week. All good, but the bike has the standard seat, and I'd really be more confident with the low seat. Apparently the dealer isn't able to swap the seat for a new low seat themselves - you have to specify it from the factory - so that'll be the best part of £200 to buy another seat. Has anyone else come across this scenario and managed to convince a dealer to swap the seats over free of charge???
 
Im sure the dealer could sort you out if they wanted the sale. I got a standard seat on my Factory lowered 2010 GS, i had the choice. They just took a seat off another bike. But maybe thats not possible with the LC

I'd suggest you ride the dealers demo (with a low seat fitted) for about 100 miles before you confirm that you want one on your bike
 
They should swap it free of charge as they did for my mate, bloody piss take trying to charge you tell them to feck off!

Strange that, i find the stock height seat awful and after 150 miles I'm in pain, so had a gel fitted in the seat still no better, brought 2 touratwat seats £700 these to was awful and full refund given by nick. I than brought a BMW low seat £207 and geez i can't believe the difference 675 miles in a day thro france and i could have done the same again ..

I had real issues getting any sort of a deal on my bike as there are so few 2014 models ready for sale. If you are impatient (like me!) then you don't get much room to bargain.

However, I think they should swap the seat for free!! Surely they can send the original seat back and bung it on another new one rolling off the production line? It's not like they are colour coded?

I'd hold out on that one mate.

I have the standard seat on mine. My dealer will ring me when they get a low seat in on an ordered bike. Not sure if I want one so I am not going to shell out over 200 quid until I have tried it. I am thinking about getting a seat from elsewhere or doing the quick trick to lower the standard seat a bit - there is a post on here about it.

The demo I rode 10 days ago had the low seat and I found it fine. With a 29" inside leg I'd just feel more confident with the seat lower, at least to begin with.

I'll mention it again and see how it goes but I did get a deal on the bike so the dealer may not want to swallow the trade cost of the seat.
 
Simples !. Be less impatient and order a bike off the production line with a low seat on.
Look at it from the dealers point of view. If he gives you a seat off another bike which has one on for another order he is then left with a standard seat to sell. How many people want one of those ?. NIL.
He then has to order another low seat for the original bike, a lose/lose situation for him.
As for sending it back to the production line , I expect BMW wont do this as they have the cost of shipping, checking it over and slipping it into production. Why would they when they already have a supplier.

It's not a matter of impatience in this instance. I asked for a quote after the test ride and the response was "It's end of quarter at the end of September so we're keen to hit target. If you can receive and pay for the bike in September, the price is £X. The bikes available are ..."

So I'm well aware of why my bike comes with a standard seat. I just thought it must be quite a common occurrence to buy a bike that has already been manufactured and was curious to know what the normal dealer stance is on seat replacement, especially when the demo was done on a low seat.

Sounds like you got a good deal on the bike then, by taking delivery before the end of the month?:nenau That, or the dealer wants to shift another LC by the end of the month. A few dealers have the 2014 on the shop floor, so call their bluff and tell them you'll go elsewhere as this is a deal breaker.:rob:thumb

Sell the standard seat and the steering damper to cover part of your cost. :hide

I tried the standard seat on the low setting and the height seems fine to be honest. In fact, I'm getting a bit of discomfort from the bend in my ankles (balls of feet on the pegs) so I might even end up moving to the higher position in time.

Dont get this. You cannot buya 2014 bike in sept 2013 as the reg doc will have the 2013 date on it and thats all that matters resale wise
