No Map on 2610

When I turn my 2610 on it reads the map info. and then is ready to navigate , showing my position on the map. After sitting stationary for about 15 minutes it shows "No Map" while still showing me what direction I am driving but no position. Do any of you clever chaps know how to fix this?

Have you tried reloading the maps onto the memory card?

Perhaps the card just needs taking out and reseating ...

I'll try re-seating the card and if that doesn't work I'll re-load the maps.

Mine did the same thing today - suddenly showed no maps available. Turns out the CF card had worked loose about 2mm - shoved it back in & no more problem.

Re-installed the card this afternoon, no change. I have just finished re-loading the maps onto the card, I''l keep you posted as to what happens

The re-loading of the maps had no effect, when I thought about it this made sense as it was only the detail maps I was re-loading and when I lost the maps I lost the base-map as well. I rang Garmin tech. support and a very patient guy called Chris talked me through up-dating my sortware to ver. 4.30 (from 4.20) Bingo!! the base-map does not dissappear anymore. It also transpires that Ihad an issue with a "Jessop" brand CF card not being read, a change to SAN-DISK sorted that out, so I'm ready to rock 'n' roll!!!

Sitting at the PC last night planning routes for a trip to Italy and the 2610 says "no map" ie not even a base map!! Rang them this morning and it's away for repair/replacement. Why does this only happen just before a trip?
