No problem with my bike!

You see a lot of problem threads on forums like this, my bike has blown this, make these funny noises or has spat metal things out through plastic things so to redress the balance slightly I thought I'd come on and say that I love my r1200GS. I've not had it very long, just over a couple of months. It's more or less stock with White Power suspension and I've changed to straight through exhaust and K&N. I've made a few cosmetic changes but nothing major, just enough to make her my own. I've ridden her all day, I've scratched round the lanes, commuted to work daily and blasted along on the tight and curvy roads and she handles it all like a pro. This is a great bike and doubtlessly the best machine i've ridden (and I've ridden them all). I've heard about reliability issues and comfort niggles but mine has done 60 000 and runs like a new bike. She has her funny little ways but I wouldn't change her, not for a newer one of these or anything else... and this is coming from a guy who swaps bikes every two weeks.

60 000 (assume miles) in two months is great going. New set of tyres and a service every week. I'm only up to 10K on my '08 but the bike gets better and better and no gremlins yet!

My bedside lamp bulb blew last night ! Thought about claiming on the household insurance - but put it right myself.

I had a paper-cut the other day at work. Even though I have access to the NHS I decided to do nothing about it all by myself. I reckon it's the mark of a man to do nothing whatsoever about injuries so tiny you can't be bothered to tell people about them. I'm thinking of writing a book.

I rebuilt my final drive last week without resorting to any assistance from anyone, not even Mr BMW (for he is very expensive) nor warranty (for I have none), and I still have the hernia to testify how tight the pinion bearing collar is done up. The week before I replaced the swinging arm bearings. Oh and the week before that I had a ride on a truck because the FPC went pop, and I fixed that too, with barely a grumble.

I must be girl for complaining so much though. Best bike on earth when it's going but people must continue to point out (not whinge excessively) about the persistant problems in the hope BMW may one day apply a few simple fixes which are all that's necessary to keep everyone happy. Even me and I'm a big girl. Maybe they'll also do pink bike just for me?

I too love my bike she is a 08 1200 GSA 14K on the clock and although I love her dearly she has had the ring sensor go the day I was catching the ferry to Santander, the FPC go while at the Hograost (very embarrasing) and now on the first day of my Highlands odyssey the ESA went tits up. I still love my bike and wouldnt swap it but I'm off to South America in January and am just a little worried what she has in store for me out there!! Ocean says thats everything possible that goes wrong sorted we will see eh

I like where this thread is going. Comparing moaning about broken bikes with body injuries. I think there are some good parallels there. Most people have a few niggles at some time or other in their life, often they'll put it off as a cold and just get on with it, but occasionally it'll turn out to be cancer and they'll die. Now if we were to believe in a divine entity we could start looking at the stats and working out that actually this death thing is happening a lot more often than people realise, then emailing to complain about it. In fact a friend of a friend of mine once heard about a disease that killed off like loads of people in this country and now they've had to ban the disease and like all is well and stuff.

Anyhow keep it up I do like sillyness.

It just refused to adjust, so I ended up spending 10 days around the Highlands with me, my girlfriend and all my luggage on the setting for one person! You could adjust the settings for sport comfort and normal but that wasnt a great deal of help, least i could touch the floor I suppose
BMW response was as usual, 'ooh we havent had one of those go before' but they had ordered the correct parts in to fix it before it went in so I am assuming it cant be that uncommon.

What went wrong with ESA ( I have one too )? What was the cost? Sorry for the hijack.

Stopped reading after you said you'd only owned it a couple of months. I sincerely hope you don't live to regret starting this thread, but I hope you're big enough to make reference to it should anything go wrong.

They're cracking bikes.........just not reliable enough.

My 12GS blew one of it's pots spraying oil everywhere at 300 miles from new, so a couple of months with no problems is darn good as far as I'm concerned!

I've done 24K on my 07 bike and although I have had a few bits that have gone wrong or furry, I have never been stranded. No FPC, EWS or final drive problems. It still uses some oil, goes from the top to the bottom of the sight glass in about 2K miles. But it's brilliant. If it died or got killed, I would buy another one, there is nothing else I would consider.

However about 2 weeks ago I rode my bike on Saturday morning and then was admitted to hospital that evening and spent a week in hospital. Coincidence? Maybe I should write a book about non biking related hospital admissions.

My 12GS new in mid June,just under 5k miles now,Scotland twice,no problems,back tyre (EXP) knackered tho'. New Roadsmarts next Wed.
Used a bit of oil for the first 1k but hardly any since, hav'nt really thrashed it yet tho'
