hi Guys....

Have a bit of a problem with me lights on my 1150 GSA, not good this time of year.

Basically I noticed my rear tail light had gone out but break light still worked, changed the bulb and still no rear light. I noticed then that the front side light was also out.

Changed the fuse and still no differance....

I wiggled a few wires around and road over a few bumps and hey presto rear light and front side light came on :) but then came to start the bike this morning and both lights are out again :(

Any ideas where to look.

Get a multimeter and check both + and ground wires from the bulbs to wherever they go, for continuity. I don't know about the harness on your bike, but you may have to take the tank off for this.

It's probably a bad contact somewhere, but I am sure you will find it :)

Dan.

I cleaned the rear bulb holder, but it seams strange that both the rear light and the front side light go on and off the same time.

I notice that they are both on the same circuit and use the same fuse hence changing the fuse.

Are there extra lamps fitted to the bike?

If So look at the block connectors under the tanks at the front and see if someone used a Dare I say it Scotchlock to pick up power from the sidelamp circuit Grey with a black strip normally

Has it got extra lights fitted ........ erm yes :)

They have been on their the last 5 years since i had the bike, but OK I'll take a look at that, think the tanks only half full so should be able to lift it off ok :)

does anyone know where that light circut would be earthed? also how can I get the Fuse box out? it was that I fiddled with that brought the lights back on for a bit?

You have a broken wire in the ignition loom, the wire that powers the parking lights. If it breaks the lights don't work even during normal operation.

It's the short loom that runs from the under the ignition key unit to the connector under the fuel tank.

Cheers, so better start looking when i get home.

I presume that doesn't effect the other lights

thank you for that...

Is it obviouse which wire it might be? colour or something or probably just check them all, at least I have somewhere to start
Cheers

Thanks that might be usefull, I do have one in the Hainz manual but don't always trust that.

Just picked up a new multimeter as mine just died LOL so going to start on it in a little while.

Ill PM my email address :)

Sorted... :D

very easy in the end.

Was thinking about the wires I jiggled around and remembered a small conector tied to the frame on the right hand side near the fuse box. unplugged it, cleaned as much as I could, put it back and hey prestow, all working. :thumb2

Don't have a clue why it's there but it worked.

Thanks for all your help guys, thankfully I didn't have to lift 32ltrs of fuel tank off the bike .
