No Responce to key fob

Just put a new alternator belt on a mates 1100RT but for some reason the bike now doesn't respond to the keyfob!
Ignition light all come on ok but when I press the key fob there is no reaction where it would normally switch on the oil temp and fuel gauge.
Indicators flash when the fob is used and the alarm works and can be turned off.

Am I correct in thinking this is a fault in the alarm system rather than the bike? He rode it here ok yesterday and I started it a couple of times.
Any ideas gents?

Kick the side stand up and make sure the kill switch is on!!

Went back out an hour later and everything working fine!
