My new Dell has no sound!
Now I have the Woofer plugged in the mains and the Speaker cable runing into another set of the same wired cables which in turn has one green conection which plugs into the PC.

I have checked the System with all ticks saying OK.
I can see visually it playing but no sound, this is also the case with DVD i get the picture but no sound?

All volumes up the lot!

Tried the Troubleshooter but nothing. I feel the Settings are wrong somewhere/

Any ideas?

Had the same problem with my Dell Dimension 4500.....

The large 5 pin connector that pushes into the back of the wooffer seems sensitive to being fully inserted......

I checked & double checked everything just to find that this connector had crept about 1mm out......

Cheers

Just run the Full Diagnostic (took about 2 hours) and had this:

error code 0F00 136c

MSG IDE DEVICE FAILED BLANK MEDIA OR NO MEDIA IS PRESENT IN OPTICAL DRIVE. TEST REQUIRES MEDIA WITH DIGITAL DATA.

Even swopped over the Subwoofer with an identical mates one and that would not work either.

I will ring the techi's with the Code, If that dont work they can have it back!

Check Dell return policy, you might have only one week to get a letter to them.

Long story but I had something similar with Dell. Took ages to resolve.

Good luck!

All the error message is saying is that there is no disk in the CDROM drive so it couldn't complete that particular diagnostic.

Double click the little speaker icon in your system tray in the bottom right of the screen. If it isn't there run Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Entertainment --> Volume Control. Check to see if any of the "Mute All" or "Mute" boxes are selected. This is a common problem.

Also run Start --> Control Panel. If necessary switch to the classic view and choose "Sound and Audio Device Properties". Make sure that the device volume is set high and the mute is unselected. Click on Speaker Volume and make sure all speakers are set high. Click Advanced next to the speakers and make sure that the right speaker type is selected e.g. 5.1 surround sound speakers.

Now, at the risk of sounding really stupid, you do have the speakers plugged into the right socket don't you? ;)

Check that you have plugged into the "Line Out" connector of your sound card NOT the integrated on-board sound connectors (assuming you have a real sound card fitted)

Tried everything! As far as i am concerned its within the 16 Day back guarantee.
They send an engineer out and if he cant fix it, its a replacement!

End of story.

But we will see.

Thanks for your help

Never had Sound. I have done and tested everything! The Yellow green and black are connected together and then one plug enters the same coulour on the row next to the sound card at the bottom row.The only time i get a Hiss of sound is when i connect that into the furthest away socket from the card , then i can hear the music but it is very scratchy and distorted. Their are no mutes (all are on).
The Sound system has been checked and is fine. The cables have been swopped from a working DELL and still no sound.
Never had it from the start when i recieved it on Tuesday.Never got to to connect up until thursday and then i had to find the Voyager BT drivers as none where installed!!!!!!
Had to go round a mates house (30miles away0 download them off AOL as not even my Dial up worked for me to download.
So it was not until late last night that . BOLLOCKS! another problem!! My Father has had 5 DELLS and never a problem. I get one that was made late on a Friday afternoon from Left overs and its my first one!
And you Know what? I was a Top HP P.C salesman for 10 years I knew how to sell but above all i know alot about the Trades discription act, Sales and Goods act Blah Blah!
Iwas quite clued up then but have lost touch a little especially on the DVD/RW and Sound Topics as they are fairly new to me, Sound isn't i know but Surround sound etc its all become a bit complicated, One wrong Tick somewhere and its like trying to find a 'needle in a haystack' .Never quite like that 10 years ago they where quite basic.

Believe me They will Exchange or Fix it One or other.
But it niggles you when you buy a product that you only buy maybe once every 4 or 5 years like a Car or bike pay alot of money for it, get it home and it breaks down.
You feel let down and p****ed OFF. 1 year down the line or even 6 months but 2 days:mad:

Words will be had early tomorrow morning.
