no speedo

can anyone tell me my mates speedo cable seized completely i change the cable but speedo still not working i guess the drive at the wheel has stripped
how easy is this to change and is this the answer oh its a 1150gsa cheers if anyone can shed somelight on this onyack scrapman

My speedo packed in on my 1150 gs in August last year.
I traced the problem to a snapped cable only to find that the drive was stripped.
Replaced the drive and cable in about 45 mins, its not difficult.

Would this be the ideal opportunity to replace the drive with one with the correct ratio? - from an RT is it?

I know the 1100 one is out.. is the 1150 the same?

Yeah the 1150 is out too, and I'm sure someone in the States with too much time on their hands has probably produced an excel spreadsheet with every conceivable variation listed!

so how easy is the drive to fit a guess you have to remove the front wheel and are there any points i have to look out for cheers for any more info onyack scrapman

It's as easy as taking the wheel off. just be sure to route the cable properly as thats more usually the point of failure

takes about 10 minutes to do.

As the axle will be out its a good time to put on a dab of moly grease. there's a spacer as well that tends to fall out and on the floor. (and so get gritty)

the cable was the prob to begin with it wasnt located properly chaffed the outer cover letting all the crap off the day into it the cable seized completely i take it the drive would get damaged first and not the speedo clocks is there any def way to test to make sure cheersonyack scrapman

Ring Motorworks ...

... and ask for the drive from an RT; I think it's ratio is 2.6 - 1, this will reduce your speedo reading to a more realistic level .i.e within about 2mph of actual, not the +8 you're currently looking at !

As to replacement, it's wheel out, remove a small screw and replace (making sure of course you line up the 'tit' on the drive with the slot on the wheel)

Oh well - no doubt you're right. just at the time seemed easier - was a fair few years back mind.
