Nobblies on the Road ??

I don't know but some old farts are missing the point and are concentrating more on piss taking then the right advice , speacking from experience or tring to give the right answer:nenau
Why someone will advice to use off road tires on the road just becouse the look cool :blast
You have to think also about the safety off others and yours!
There is nothing wrong with a bit bling bling:thumb

go for it.

been running metzeler karoo for 6 months.
just flat spotted to point of no return@ 4'000 miles approx.commuting mainly on tarmac via highways and no green laning. Had never ridden motorbike on knobblies of any description on road b4 bmw 1200gsa. Can only give posotive feedback.
Although a little unsettled at slow speeds above 5 mph no probs upwards of 70mph no probs either . Heavy braking or adverse cambers and no big deal .To me ride just as the metzeler tourance did on first set. BTW got 9000 miles form tourance rear till illegal still 2 mm on front kept just in case.
As stated b4 My rear run out although shoulders ok. Did quickly flat spot but held on very well. I think is still legal just and would not hesitate to put back on ion the summer. I only replaced whilst riding in the snow and slush in llanberis/and snowdonia last week as was hopping too much.
Front i retained as is not even half worn yet.
Btw same tyre fits suzuki dr650 as i purchased new/4yr old unused set off e-bay for 41.00 hope this helps . GSA will always outride you in my opinion regardless of tyre i believe the weight really helps

Having just gone from Tourances to k60 on my 650 twin I can say there is a big difference.

Anything under 25 gets the bike humming away. (Which i quite like) Stability is different as they are not as planted as Tourances.

Am sure I will adjust. Early days yet.

May swap fronts with a spoked wheel I have and just run Tourances again weekdays front only. I am getting more as and more off road at the weekends.

If you want to run knobbies then do so. But if you don't venture off road you will sacrifice handling. My 2p.

No one else is missung the point except you Sani and you were talking right out of your arse. TKC's are road legal and factory fit on a GS so why would they invalidate your insurance:nenau

They are really good tyres and yet another load of bollox saying that using them is unsafe and may affect the safety of others:blast

If you can't post the correct facts on a subject, don't bother

same comment as mr bilco - i have run tkc's for years under all sorts of conditions from 45 degrees to -10C.

The wanders at speed and particularly when loaded up, but you get used to it. They are noisy too but adds to the fun.

I have only had a highside once in the wet and that was because I was being heavy handed out with Petcul and co in northumberland last year. Great in the dry. Touched a pannier down coming back up from the Boxer Beet last year - nice long smooth b road near norwich...aaaah what a castella moment that was, last time i did that was going up alpe d'huez.

Happy TKC'ing!

And they make the bike look cool :D
Are you serious about getting a pannier down? Is that even possible, or do you have 6 foot wide panniers?

You CAN grind them there panniers... TKC or not

yeah its intersting when it happens - both times i 'touched down' it stayed down for a few grinds. Touratech Zega Panniers, all stock stuff.

Its all in trusting the thing and trying to look as cool as possibe whilst approaching zero altitude :thumb it will happen, just need to push it as far as you dare.

And when you take the panniers off, you can hit Kielder forest and pull 50mph power slides out of gravelled corners (can't you Paintman)

That's your opinion then , I am not missing the point you just want to be a clever pexy ! You must go and see a Psychiatrist if you think that is something wron with my post and also for wrongly advising people to wear off road tires on the highway's roads etc. there are off road tires for a reason ! Can you also advise others to use track or road tires off road ?!
Safety first Pexy !!

... is a pexy ?

Pexy.

/Pecksie/
Noun
A carnivorous fetaloid sponge (Fetolid and other genera) of the turdus family with a squishy body and gelatinous tentacles, proverbial for its stink
Verb
Felch or squidge (someone).

Only found in small areas of Cornwall in the United Kingdom, Pexys are considered both a pest and a delicacy.

Asexual, but when found in cider apple fields, they usually turn homosexual.
Their breeding cycle is largely unknown

Ahhhhh the Kielder, the perfect location for a set of TKC's IMHO, although I prefer to ride something lighter than a GS off road these days as I struggle picking the fecker up. Hats off to you though you pedal your 1/4 ton of pig iron round the forest with great skill.:thumb2

(blushing) well thank you Paintman.

third of a ton, loaded up, thankyou :)

So back on track, Do you need nobblies to go off road? well it depends on how far off road , i have been down green lanes during the summer months , all be it a bit wet . without fitting nobblies with no spills . just ride with care and then you can go over the hill just to see the other side !! then once back on the tarmac ride the nuts off it :D

I'd love to be a riding god and be able to ride challenging trails in Tourances, but I can't do mud with Tourances (sometimes can't with TKC80's either !) I can do dry tarmac with great confidence on TKC80's , but I take it respectfully when wet. Knobblies knock your tarmac speed anyway... just try pushing the bike to see the effect! For me it's knobblies all of the time which open a new world away from tarmac.I don't want a trailer or a transit van, I just want to ride and ride everywhere.:D

Also I think that it will invalidate your insurance also if you hit someone and was your fault or not then you may be in the bit off a problem because the tires are not for 100% road use purpose :beerjug:

Complete and utter bollocks. I cant get over the unsubstantiated shite that a lot of folks write.

So are BMW breaking the law by supplying unroadworthy bikes with the zero cost option of TKC80's?

If you go offroad 'dual purpose' road tyres are shite. IMO if you ride offroad and aren't worried about the shortcomings on road the TKC is the way to go. If you're 100% road rider the Roadsmarts or PR3 is the way to go.

Why compromise with tourances or similar - surely those are the choice of the fashion victim :blast

I fitted a set of TKC's to my GS a couple of weeks ago. Basically, what everyone else said on here, (except for the bit about invalidating insurance) applies, they are;

Noisy
Wear quicker
Wander at speed
Offer surprisingly good grip levels

And,

They do look Uber cool (and whats wrong with that??)

Hope this helps..:D

In what way are they dangerous?
