Hello
Just purchased a 1998 1100gs and have noticed a noise from what sounds like right hand side of bike. Sounds like an electric fan going continuously and is noticeable over all the rattly tappety (they all do that) sounds.
Is it ABS or fuel pump and does it need sorting or is it just the usual response

Cheers

David

The fuel pump lives in the tank, the ABS pump lives under the tank - both central, neither on the right hand side. The noise isn't normal. Does it make the noise just when you're riding or whenever the engine is running (including with bike stationary)? Is it engine or road speed dependent?

Its a constant noise thats there all the time when engine running. Starts as soon as ABS test stops. Stops when engine stops. Doesnt fluctuate with revs. Like I said it sounds just like an electric fan or a pump. Could be coming from underneath the tank and the brakes feel a little soft (I think). The lights on the ABS go off, so Im not too sure.
Best I get it in for somene to have a look

Cheers

David

if it's the fuel pump it will be noisier when the tank is empty, but it should start before the ABS sets itself.

and it should stop when pressure is reached and engine not running ?

I get a similar sound on one of my 1100`s,and barely on the other.
It does indeed sound like a ( quiet ) fan...it`s done it for eight years now.

Don`t worry about it.

That'll be the airconditioning which was an optional extra on the 98' model 1100 ;)
....or it could be the fuel pump, mine does it too (since new 6 years ago) don't worry about it.
