Think it’s only 2 nights camping.And you were unfortunately a 1% er

It’ll be a trip to remember for many reasons.

This would be way out of my comfort zone as asthmatics should avoid exceeding 2500m above sea level.

Seems a long time to wait for a ride report :D

This looks like a very good jaunt. I have been to India (or at least some of the major cities) but never anywhere near the Himalayas.

For anyone remotely interested, flights to Delhi with BA are typically £450 each way but I can get about 10/15% off this for anyone.

Flights from Delhi to Chandigarh with someone like Indigo are typically $60 each way .

So bargain on another £1000 for flights.

The plan is to fly out on 9th July ,arriving early hours on 10th then connecting flight to Chandigarh to stay in the hotel which is the meeting point on 11th .Hotel is only about £50 even though it’s 4 star.

On the return we can fly back to Delhi early evening on 25th to catch early hours flight on 26th (0200 ish) back to LHR.

Way over 1% of riders on our trip suffered.I am sure you will survive.

Think I’ll believe the expert , if it’s all the same to you , where NOT ONE got AMS

In all the 9 trips I did no one got AMS . We had to take a few people down in altitude but no one got acutely ill . Diamox or acetazolamide are worth having as it can help . I took it as I live at sea level , and you do feel a bit dizzy at 5000 metres . But you don’t stay high for long , you go back down . We did sleep at Sarchu for a night and that is 4500 m . Bit short of breath there . Trick is not too much alcohol if at that height as it makes you feel worse . As I said , a really great place to ride and Alex has a great company and outlook.

Thanks for the info - I’m considering doing this next year instead of heading to Australia for the lions tour again.
Not getting any younger and so many places I still want to ride.

As Robbo1200ADV said above, I've been twice with Alex, both times on Bullets, and although I had Diamox with me it wasn't needed. I was expecting to have some issues as after a big GS accident in 2002 my lung capacity was down to 40% for a while, but apart from gasping a bit at over 18,000 ft (the bikes were gasping even worse) all was well.

Alex is very fond of a glass of whisky, take a bottle with you and you'll make friends for life 😀

Thanks . Good info .

The only thing I’d suggest if venturing for a few days at altitude is to take sinutabs or similar for a couple of weeks before going because even if you think you’re ok any slight blockage in your sinus passages will cause misery.

I used to go to the Alps every summer and it was probably a summer of hay fever made me susceptible to problems but it can make a proper mess of your holiday if it gets you.

I'm down about 30% all the time. Asthma coupled with lungs which down have the frilly bit's round the edges apparently :nenau

im booked up for similar trip with another company for October this year. Wee bit cheaper than Nomadic knights but bikes might be older. Looking forward to this trip as i doubt I will do another one as epic.
Flights are a bit of a bugger as we fly edin- turkey- delhi-katmandu. Think the highest elavation we are going is to around 3500 (mantang?) so poss some out of breath moments but runny bowels are prob more of a concern :) 12 days on himmys , prob older model but the scenery and cultural bit looks amazing.

I've recently signed up to do the Rode to Everest trip in October. Relieved to read here that AMS seems to be quite rare. I also read that the place where we sleep near Everest pumps 02 into the the rooms at night, I hope I don't need it. I do need a 3 litre CamelBak though, any recommendations there seem to be a lot of different ones available?

This is a great ride. I have done it three times, originally on a Bullet 350 (with Robbo) then on Himalayans 411. Yes it is tough but it is absolutely fine really. The uncertain weather conditions, landslides, etc, can make it even more interesting… Alex and his team will ensure you all have a memorable adventure. Tradition is to contribute a ‘very good’ single malt.
