Has anybody here done the above tour ?
I’ve just been watching a series of 10 videos featuring a new Himmy 450, Triumph Scrambler 400X and KTM390ADV on a 2000 mile trip around southern India.


One of the riders is Alex Pirie, owner of Nomadic Knights.

I’ve been looking at his website and toying with doing a Himalayas Roof of India tour but probably not till 2026.
 
I have tidied-up the thread, moving the innocent comment about the MSC panniers shown in the video, to the Himalayan luggage thread.

I did many trips in the Himalayas as medic with Alex . He is a great guy and really knows his stuff . He has an amazing team of people out there and is getting a new fleet of 450 Himalayan bikes for this years trips .
He has lived out there for many years . Probably the very best trips that are run out there . You will love it

Out of interest, how many people suffered from AMS on your trips ?

In all the 9 trips I did no one got AMS . We had to take a few people down in altitude but no one got acutely ill . Diamox or acetazolamide are worth having as it can help . I took it as I live at sea level , and you do feel a bit dizzy at 5000 metres . But you don’t stay high for long , you go back down . We did sleep at Sarchu for a night and that is 4500 m . Bit short of breath there . Trick is not too much alcohol if at that height as it makes you feel worse . As I said , a really great place to ride and Alex has a great company and outlook.

Ok great . Slightly different to the post on the other thread where a tosser implied most of his group got ill !!

But your experience ties up with what Alex says !!

E-Visa sorted today for my trip- in August


.....now if the f*ckers would just stop shelling the area that would be really helpful !
Had an email from Nomadic yesterday highlighting that they have not been cautioned against travel in Kashmir and are still planning to run the trips but they have a plan B, if needed.
Lets hope its not.

it looks like we are booked on the same trip. What's your thoughts on the fighting in the area? Have you made any enquiries with Alex or heard anything about what a "Plan B" might actually be? Does your insurance cover you in Kashmir region whilst there are government warnings in place?

Alex will have all necessary information needed . Same as if there are landslides , alternative routes are planned . Many of my trips started as the book ride but changed due to floods or landslides . He knows the country so well nothing will phase him or his team . Don’t worry . It will be an amazing trip . There may be a big military presence , and that can mean 100 army trucks in a convoy , makes overtaking exciting !! Have a great trip

Other than an email from Alex recently when the shooting had started saying that they have a plan B - heard nothing more.
I'm going regardless, whether it be Plan A or Plan B !

There isnt a Foregin office 'Dont travel' advisory for the area currently, so I think I am all good as far as insurance goes.
Fingers crossed I will be arriving in Chandigarh on the evening of Thursday 7th August where I plan to do not a lot on the friday, before the trip starts the Saturday lunchtime.

There are 2 trips before us. Basically Im waiting to see how the first one gets handled and take it from there.
