The Beverley arms hotel ( which surprisingly is in Beverley) would be my best call

Beverley is a lovely little town and whilst i have not stayed there for many years now it was good

I haven't stayed here but had meals here, Once home to 617 Squadron, The Dambusters, https://www.petwood.co.uk/

Built in 1905 by a wealthy Baroness and later home to 617 'The Dambusters' Squadron, the Petwood is a unique hotel surrounded by 30 acres of award-winning landscaped gardens in the charming town of Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire. This former country house offers free wi-fi, free car parking, banqueting and wedding facilities with a licence for civil ceremonies. The hotel is also home to the historic Squadron Bar alongside a wealth of RAF WWII memorabilia as well as one of the prototypes of Barnes Wallis' famous 'bouncing bombs'. Rooms at the Petwood Hotel feature bathrooms with baths, showers and hairdryers as well as TVs, radios and tea and coffee making facilities. Choose from either a classic or executive room or upgrade to a four-poster room with views over the gardens The Dining Room offers diners award-winning fine cuisine influenced by locally sourced produce. Guests can also enjoy a more relaxed dining experience in the Terrace Bar choosing from a wide range of bar meals or the classic Petwood Afternoon Tea

just outside the ring to the north is the Horseshoe Inn Levisham. Lovely quiet place if you want peace and quiet. Have stayed there many time. Toby is the proprietor

Ta but a bit too far north adding 45 minutes to an already longish drive.

Used this place in the past. Very nice and reasonable cost.
I hope it’s of some use to you.

Woodhall Spa is a pretty good call. It's a nice little town with a few independent shops, a great delicatessen and a lovely Indian restaurant. There are plenty of cafés to choose from as well. There's also a beautiful little cinema as well that's worth a visit to watch a film if you have the time.
Depending on dates and weather there's also a little outdoor swimming pool.
If antiques are yours/your wife's thing Horncastle has plenty of shops/centres and is just a short drive from Woodhall Spa.
You could then have a nice little run through the Lincolnshire Wolds (prettier than you might think) up to Hull.
There are a few old school hotels in Woodhall Spa and also a couple of campsites/lodge rental places.

30 minutes SOUTH of Grantham, so maybe a bit too far outside your oval, is the George at Stamford.

We've stayed there.
Excellent choice.
The little church opposite is worth a look if that's your thing.
If you have time then the train to Bridlington takes half an hour and means you can go for a paddle in the sea.

I was going to suggest the George as it is truly wonderful but i didnt as it is too far out of his radius
