Was approached last week by a guy in York who was offering BMW servicing and told me that as long as he uses genuine parts that my warranty would be valid. he has the diagnostic machine with current updates.
Has anyone else out there used this type of service and had to have a claim under the warranty, was it valid did you have hassle from the main dealer.
The guy claims its some eec ruling.

I think we could do with an input from Steptoe the guru.

I would just like to thank everyone (194)for there enthusiastic response.

I did a search before posting, i'm not a big forum groupie just get out there and ride my bike.

Hey don't take it personally :comfort

The majority of people that use independents are probably out of warranty and therefore haven't been in that position. I think sensible advice would be to use a dealer until your warranty runs out to be on the safe side.

Hello
Yes under EU law your warranty is still covered BUT be aware. If you are on an extended warranty then you are NOT covered.
I use a non BMW service engineer. However, although cheaper its not always best. Ie, after servicing my bike through him, he couldn't work out my stalling problem; when I took it to BMW, they also noticed that the heated grip wasnt working and that the starter motor was on its way out. These were replaced under warranty. I personally am going back to BMW until I'm well out of warranty!

I disagree with the first sentence. I have an email from the BMW extended warranty people confirming a change in the T's & C's that now allows independent servicing as long as BMW parts etc are used.

I will paste a copy of said email as soon as I have a chance but a search will find an earlier posting.

You are correct, I spoke with BMW a couple of weeks ago and the use of independents has been amended for the extended warranty. :D

Fair enough guys. I'm only quoting the independent BMW service technition that told me that he couldn't do it 3 weeks ago? Try it and see, I hope you're right?
