NON servo ABS removal HELP

I have just got my 2000 1150GS back from the garage
it was in to have a service and checkover as the abs didn't seem to be working (Yes I was donkey and bought the GS without knowing a thing about abs)
Any way it seems the abs module is knackered. the mechanic did the reset several times, checked all the sensors and replaced the battery
I now know why the bike was so cheap
I have seen many threads on how to remove SERVO+ABS removal
But I cant find a thread on how to remove NON SERVO ABS
can anybody point me in the right direction please.

unplug connector on the side of the unit job done

if you want to be fussy you repipe and remove the unit

No Biggie unlike the Servo POS

The reason you only read about servo/abs removal and not about ABS removal, is that the brakes don't work when the servo/abs stops working.

If the plain ABS stops working it makes no difference to the braking. And also there's no wiring to be sorted out to make the rear lights and brake lights work, unlike the servo model.

what worries me is MOT time. how do I overcome the

just remove the ABS sensors and Rings (back sensor you probably just cut the plug off or get someone to turn you a wee dod of alloy if you want a nice look)

repipe the lines to the callipers and remove the ABS unit Stick a bag over the ABS plug and cable tie it off safely

It doesn't need ABS for the mot.
Its about 3 years since my ABS stopped working.

Are the rules for bikes different than those for cars then? If a car has ABS then the warning light system must work for the test.

And before any of you jump in and say your car passed the test without just remember that the test is carried out by a human who can choose to ignore the rules.

Don't be too quick to junk the abs unit. It may be an easy fix like mine was. I did a guide on my repair somewhere on here & it took about an hour including taking the tank off (everything's easy to get at with the tank off & no other components were disturbed in doing the job).

Hope you're as fortunate as I was...

Mine was

Down to one of the brake hoses at the front braking down internally
Partial seizure of the front brakes occurred
Abs wouldn,t reset

Check out those hoses

If they look like original hoses change them anyway, they are 13 years old now. What's your life worth?

my abs unit failed on my r1150rt all i did was take out the blue relay the mot guy still passed it as it had plenty of braking power i will remove mine as well later on in the year less things to go wrong the better, not only that makes you a better rider !

ABS shouldn't effect your riding style it only operates just before you would have locked the brakes, if you are constantly triggering it you are doing something wrong, take the hint the bike is giving you

Yes, the rules are very different......one day though, they'll manage to get them sorted out.
No emissions tests for bikes either

Thanks for that. We have emissions tests here so I refit the cat. once a year for about an hour!

Thanks every body for their help and advice
still not sure what to do.
I bought the bike for a really good price, but it was kept out side for most of its life, I think it was a commuter bike looking at the wear and corrosion
I think Im gonna ride it for now and maybe chop it in for a later model
may be an adventure
