Non Standard replacement forks.....

The issue with non-standard forks is that you will probably need to get new triple trees made up. I've heard a few people doing it and if you are going to go that way, you can then pretty much choose which ever forks you want - Ohlins, WP etc.

Thanks Mav. Anybody know where and how much? Mine aren't knackered yet, but with the stories I am reading and the cost of original stuff out here, I want to start looking around as the bike is out of warranty...

Cheerz....

Rather than rushing out buying new forks before yours die - you could have the existing forks worked on to put the compression and rebound cartridges in both legs. Mine have had this treatment and have been fine for 19,000 miles including two up touring, commuting and off-road abuse.

There is a company in the UK that could do it, but the shipping would be pretty expensive!

Mav, good to know. My bike will be in the UK in June, so details would be appreciated. I am doing a RTW starting Feb and will be there early summer. Nobody seems to know much about them out her in Asia....:thumb2

Thanks Mav for the info.... Will let you know more on this site when my bike is finished....Sorry, ready!:D

About the RTW trip and your forks, do you have a homepage telling us
about your trip.
I'm also very interrested in the progress in your forks.

/Matte

Hi Matte, just registered a website, but it won't be up for a while. Thanks Sniffy, hopefully these legs'll get me to the UK, but I will get them worked on as a matter of preventative maintenance.....

Thanks

Muzz

Don't bother re working them .....they are shit and when reworked they are slightly better shit. Change the triples and go with something the Hp2 deserves......the shivers are bargain basement crap.

And what would you suggest then?

Dr Shox's option

Chris Hockey supplied me with a re worked set of forks i have just travelled approximately 3000 miles of Namibia's best or worst roads loaded with full gear. the forks performed impecably with some tunning the ruts and bumps literaly disapeared. (the Ohlins rear also helped). My freind on a standard HP2 could not stop when the daft german tourist turned in front of us where I had 30 m to spare. I have a KTM530 with amazing suspension, the new HP2 forks are on a par if not an improvement. the thing to remember is that with a 200kg bike the front end cannot be as plush as a 110kg bike.:oonyack

My buddies suspension actually colapsed on the trip. I am not sure how to post photos but i'll email them to one of you who can post them if you like.

Travelling through the SA border on the way back in, the police officer on duty asked what had happend to the bike with the collapsed suspension we explained the seal had gone. The wonderful South African police officer then asked if we had heard the one about the Australian travelling through Namibia who came across a car with broken suspension. The Australian said to the Namibian "It looks like you've blown a seal" the Namibian answered "Well you **** Sheep".:bounce1

It was a great trip.

Ride Namibia if you can!

As mentioned before the problem is getting a replacement tree, i think a couple of guys have had them fabricated on the adv rider site. Find the trees and the world is your oyster as far as legs go.
At least it's not as bad as my mates x challenge, the forks on his bike are crimped off so no chance of improving them.
