Have you spent enough to have bought a Nav V or VI in the first place yet?![]()
Haha - depends on how you look at it!
I actually had a Nav V thrown in as part of the deal when I bought the bike, and as I got a good deal on the bike itself, I would regard that as essentially free. However, I was never terribly impressed with it, and it only properly solves the speedo issue if you have it on an info screen in which case you can't use the maps. The speed readout at the bottom of the map screen was better than the analogue dials, but still a bit small. The add-on speedo gadgets I bought weren't very expensive, and I did get quite a bit of use out of the first one before it started playing up, and the other one will go back in the car.
I've now sold the Nav V and for part of what that raised I bought a super-duper Nexus 6 smartphone with 64 GB of storage and am running the MyRoute Navigation app on that, but of course it is a very nice phone when not being used on the bike, so I have sold the previous phone, reducing the net cost. Overall I have a solution I'm happier with, though I know it wouldn't suit everyone, and it hasn't cost me anything to change, and in fact I've come out with a positive balance sheet on the whole exercise.
I did over 2000 miles touring in Spain recently and left the Nav V at home, using just the MyRoute app on my smaller previous phone, so I know it is a solution I can live with, and it is now improved with the bigger phone and the better QuadLock bike mount ready for a trip to France in July.
