noo dont make me wear a twat suit!

Leathers

Your blue leathers look bvery nice but they arenot water proof and in the warm or hot weather you must cook!. Have a look at bike shows for jackets etc, at the nec thjere are end of line Rukka jackets, i brouight my current one in a sale ten years ago in M? City, still going strong unlike the sellers!.
I brought a replacement at the|NEC for £249!. This still in the cupboard as
original one still ok, I brought a Ralle 2 suit from here s/h in perfect nick for £300 including bmw thermal under garments (never worn them) suit brought for long trip in hot climates. This also survived the artic circle, dalton highway
and very hot weather in arizona and south america. The vents do work very well rukka stuff being designed for european climates has no venting. So have a look a t nnke shows and the for sale and wanted posts but do be carefull with BMW sizes, a law unto themselves.

I bought these for SWIMBO in September. about £400 all in, Warm, Comfortable, Water and windproof and she loves them!

Hein Gericke ...........Can't remember which range though:blast

Choose something decent once and it'll serve you well. Most of the time you DO get what you pay for

Halvarssons Jacket in winter for me....excellant bit of kit...had it 2 years now, and it looks like new still (after 20k miles)
Hideout leather jeans, (and jacket in summer).

Hideout= not cheap, but I need made to measure for my legs following RTC long ago.
Halvarssons= ACE quality (185 sqids for the jacket) and swedish made. Good value (Very good value when compared with BWM and Rakku)

Just MHO

Mate, I always wear textiles on my GS and wouldn’t be seen dead in the leather stuff (Valentino Rossi wannabes) :)

That made me smile :)
To be a little more informative than I was in my last email ...

I wear Frank Thomas two-piece leathers every time I ride. They have non-leather pannels to make life comfortable and I have added a good armoured back plate to the already good limb armour. In the summer or about in the slightly hotter climes of Europe this is fine with a t-shirt and/or jersey beneath. In the winter I add the under jacket, a thin but warm jersey and (in the last two weeks) the BMW warm under garments that got such good press in Bike or Rode magazine recently (I bought them after the review and they are so much better than anything else I have tried). When it rains I put on a two piece Hein Gerikes rain suit but it leaks around that vital region in really heavy down-pours and is too tight for me around my neck (we could get to the moon in the 1960s but cannot produce water-proof garments at a reasonable price :rob).

I like the protection offered by leathers and, I admit it, I find textiles a little boring. Unfortunately I cannot hope to emulate Rossi and, in the interests of a longer life, don't wish to. I do like my leathers though - they are a vital part of my excellent mid-life crisis. According to the most recent Ride/Bike issue (I forget more easily these days ), genuinely water-proof leathers are hitting the market this spring and I will be a happy man when that happens.

Also, I ride on roads not off-road. Leathers off-road would be a mad idea and, once I get that off-road training I keep promising myself, something will have to be bought that allows me to feel cool (as in not warm) while protecting me as I fall over (often) and can be easily cleaned. I am not sure that the water-proof textile suits fit that requirement, however.

In summary, I ride an R1100GS and I think its looks far better than any 1200GS I have seen so I am already in a small minority ... which suits me just fine. I do not like the image of textile suits and do like the image of leather - I note that concentrating on image is a weakness and smile about it. Actually, you could say I am in it for the image ... except that clothing, bike versions, tyres, kit and all that fade away when riding solo, one bike alone, for long periods in less populated parts of the world.

so wearing clothing that protects you better than textile and is used by racers who fall off at speed is worse than being a Ewan McGregor wannabie??

Wear what is best for you rather than listening to twats who think that you need to be wearing the same as the emperors new clothes! :)

Leather will protect you better than textile in an off, treat the leather with the right stuff and it will give you a degree of protection from the rain, take a one piece over-suit with you and you have it all.

I ride my 1200GS Wearing my leather Furygan Vulcan trousers, - some days I will wear the zip In leather jacket, other days I will wear my textile jacket, with back, elbow and shoulder protectors. - I wear what I want to rather than what some other tosser thinks that I should be wearing on the bike! ;) I also wear a Shoei X Spirit which is the same as MotoGP riders use for a reason..... A flip front helmet does not offer the same level of protection in an accident, - neither does a TourX.....

Agreed! Whist riding a Suzuki GT250A with L-plates in the seventies ... and doing almost everything wrong ... I fell off and slid a bit before being stopped by a concrete curbstone. On getting up, the scars on my full-face helmet around my right cheek gave me the sudders. I like my head - it suits me :) - and I wear a full-face helmet. Why compromise?

jeans and T shirt in summer. Always have. As everyone used to.

It's only recently that everyone wraps themselves up every day of the year.

Littlebeemer,,,,
If you get over to the mainland and to the Christchurch area, take a wander into "BIKERS YARD".. They're nice people and dont mind you trying everything on.. Their prices are good , much lower than anywhere in the area. Good range of makers and product ranges.. Some of the stuff is "last years" colours /designs / end of range etc, but if you're more interested in getting quality items at a price you can afford , what does that matter? Rukka is wonderful ,, but who the hell can afford it??
Details below if it helps you ..

I have no commercial connections or interests in these folks ,,just a satisfied customer hoping to help a fellow Gs'er/tosser/tosser-ess on a budget get value for her money..

All I was doing was trying to show how shallow the previous post to mine was. Seems I was a little too subtle :D

How about a textile top with leather trousers? Weise gear is quite good and not too expensive, and it does the job, too.

I guessed as much but it was a good excuse for a rant while supposedly doing weekend work at home :) ... which is what I am supposed to be doing now as well.
