Hi is anyone else planning a visit to the north of Norway 2013? last week in May with no great pressure on time. I will be camping almost all the time to keep the costs down Somewhere about 2/3 weeks i recon

Me........!

Time would be just over two weeks and it's not so easy now without the Newcastle-Stavanger crossing!

Having been up to the Nordkapp twice before it'd be nice to go back and i do like the E6 'Arctic Highway' however its much quicker riding up through Sweden and at the end of May the weather can still be tricky although we were lucky on our last three trips north of the Arctic Circle.

Hytter huts were only £20-£30 per night early season and were always warm and dry which kept morale up although camping was good aswell and I have a Tentipi Zirkon 7 tent now with a Origo Heatpal heater for keeping the tent warm and cozy in the northern latitudes.

Definately interested in a return trip to northern Scandanavia.

For me the secret of a trip to the Nordkapp is getting there as early as possible!

Late May and the road there is just about open which makes the trip challenging plus the roads are almost empty and you get a real sense of achievement crossing the Arctic Circle reaching Europe's most northern point at The Nordkapp or North Cape at 71 degrees 10' 21''N

I've been there before on 1st June 2003 and then 25th may 2007 so it's time for a return trip albeit by a different and much quicker route up through Sweden on the 'Inlandsbann'

Reindeer, Elk, Mountain Hares, Arctic foxes, Sea Eagles, Golden Eagles, Ravens, Red Squirrels, and the very faint chance to see a Lynx, Bear or Wolf and the odd Beaver or two can make the trip very interesting aswell.............!

The Alaska spirit is alive and well:D Would love a trip up there mate but the bike will be on it's way back stateside.

What bike are you taking?
I think i will take the gsa (if i can get the rest of the stateside crap blasted off :D) Didn.t get a chance to clean it before it went into the container (it did not look to bad at the time) , see after it had stood all that time :eek:
Shot blaster might have made a better job:D

I've been thinking about this one too. I was thinking June July might be the best time as I don't want to freeze being a soft southener!
Is 2 to 3 weeks generally considered enough time?

We went 3-18th May 2008 (there's a ride report on here;))

It was cold alright but the snow was amazing either side of the road(see my avatar):bounce1

If we were to go again we'd go the same time!! No mossies to contend with either:comfort

sorry for thread highjack went in 2002 and loved it, want to go back with missus and littleun, missed Lofotens so on to do list. Wish they would start the Newcastle ferry again. We stayed in Youth Hostels and camped, the YH where great and got me into using them back in blighty regular.

We went in August, is it the same as scotland, May & Sept. no midge, given we will have another bundle of joy next year would be best to miss the buggers.

Must recommend the coastal road in Norway we went up that way and came down through part of Sweden, it was a lot nicer.

Cheers Simon

Change of plan guys Norway is out for 2013
Going to go to Alaska with SGT BILCO instead but will go to nkapp in 2014 instead :thumb2

Myself and girlfriend Sue (Gracie on here) hoping to be heading that way May June time, returning by heading east in to Russia to Murmansk (her father was there with the convoys in WWII)

Then down through Russia Leningrad/St Petersburg and home via Latvia, Lithuania etc
