Super tough on the bike, wear them around town, wear them out on the hills, ride home again.
Waterproof, available black or brown, available in a wide fitting (standard is quite narrow) - yours for about £130 new on ebay or anything from £50-80 for a very good pair of pre-loved ones!
Wear them, abuse them (even then they'll last years), and replace them.
I paid £25 for a s/h pair on eBay, wore them for 2yrs and paid £79 for a refurb. They came back like new and got used for another 3yrs. Day-long comfort while marshalling the TT on The Mountain section and tough as, you know.., old boots. I recently took a trip to the factory shop and got a pair of Hogg Microlites which are sympatex lined, but still have the defenders for whenever I might need a tough, comfy walking boot.
Altberg boots are available as made to measure, perfectly sized and shaped to your feet. I've had my Hoggs for over 15 years, including one remake after 5 or 6 years, they are still waterproof, comfortable and strong. It's worth visiting the factory in Richmond, using the made to measure service and taking some time for a ride i the Yorkshire Dales.
I agree… I took a trip across there to get measured up and place an order, but fluked them having a pair in stock that were a perfect fit and also got them discounted from £309 to £220.
Going to Altberg in Richmond and getting measured for m2m boots is well worth the effort especially if you have slightly unusual feet. I was impressed with the price and mine are now probably 5yo and still in great condition.
I have one calf which is 2” larger in circumference than the other.
When we were there they only discussed British sizes.
As a bonus there are some great roads in the area.
