Managed to get away for a few days over last weekend.
My Dad landed in Normandy on D Day with 50th Div and also fancied checking out a bit of Norman history after the recent excellent series on BBC2.
We based ourselves in Bayeux at the Hotel Mogador. The Hotel was basic but situated in the middle of town and was clean and cheapish at 51 euros a night.
Cathedral was very impressive.
Needed an ice lolly to cool down as weather very hot.
Plaque commemorating my Dad's division the famous double T.
The next day we went to Gold Beach where he landed on 6th June.
Part of the 'blockhouse' where an 88 took out three Sherman Tanks on the first day.
Cheers old fella.
Cheese, ham, bread and wine picnic.
The Gun Battery at Longues-sur-Mer.
Command post for the Batteries.
Part of the Arromanches artificial harbour.
