Managed to get away for a few days over last weekend. :thumb2

My Dad landed in Normandy on D Day with 50th Div and also fancied checking out a bit of Norman history after the recent excellent series on BBC2.

We based ourselves in Bayeux at the Hotel Mogador. The Hotel was basic but situated in the middle of town and was clean and cheapish at 51 euros a night.

We had a wettish ride home but the two bridges at Le Havre are neat.

On the tunnel I chatted to this Japanese biker who had ridden his TransAlp all the way to the UK from his homeland via Russia, Scandinavia and the Balkans. He was off to visit friends in Newcastle before heading down to Spain where he was going to ship his bike home.

A real adventure. Respect. :bow

Thanks for looking. :)

Top trip by the look of it.

I've always been very fond indeed of Normandy. Smashing place with lovely people - and not to mention the food...

And much respect indeed to your Pa.

I'm taking 15 guys to Arromanches on Friday for the weekend, hope you left a little of the good weather behind :thumb2

Are you staying at Adrians in Arromache by any chance? my brother in law is going at the weekend and couldn't get in as booked for months, so staying next door.

We did indeed. Think this was 4th time staying with them, took kids back in about 05, then a mate was trying to plan a weekend for his workmates from Luton nick, so in the end I got us all booked into adrians for him, that was 3 yrs back. Then decided to see if my club fancied it early last year, took about 12, but filled the whole place this year with15 of us.
There was a couple stopping next door on an xjr that was immaculate, only saw them for brekky though.

Adrian and Karen did us proud again, we had all our evening meals with them as well, fantastic value. Karen hardly winced when I told her 5 mins before the first meal that we had one guy alergic to onions:D. Must remember to tell her beforehand next time.

Anyone knowof anything similar nearer the Somme areas?

That was my brother in law with the XJR, Adrian recommended next door to stay and as you say thet then had breakfast with the rest of you. Did well with the weather didn't you all!!

Yeh, the weather was stunning. Needed a good one, had really bad week in the alps in july. Did almost double the miles in a weekend compared to a week in the alps....crazy.
I was on my Blackbird though, my 850 is a bit to weezy for those trips.
You should tell the BIL to have his evening meals there next time, amazing value. Last year we had one evening in town, it cost twice as much, beer was stupid money for small glasses, and the service was pretty poor as well. This year we had all 3 evenings with Adrian and Karen, free beer, wine and cider, 4 courses and coffees, and some rather unusual apperatifes/ palate cleanser sorbets......shall we say. Adrian loves his tipples, and is always keen for you to try them with him:D, all for 20euro per person:thumb2

Will tell him at the weekend, he is hoping to go back again next year, he will have to get in his finger out to get booked in, I stayed at Adrians in 2005 not long after he started, built up a nice little business now.
