North East Stopover

We're planning to stop over in the North east on the way back fron Scotland to Norfolk in a couple of weeks.

Not sure where to stay. Looking for a small town rather than venturing into the cities as it's only one night. Small hotel/Travelodge/good B&B accomodation. Food in walking distance. Around Hatlepool/Durham in latitude gives us a reasonable run home. Any ideas or local recommendations?

I would avoid Hartlepool/Teesside areas...............if you want to continue your journey on your bike

Either stop in Northumberland, north of Newcastle or in North Yorkshire - you'll find better accomodation and safer parking

Well I am biased but I'd go for Hexham, small, quiet town, on route A68 either North or South.

Good pubs & food plus minimal scroats kicking about

Probably Durham or the Avalon. Do love a bit of Whitby but fancy somewhere different this time.

Every time we pass through the North East we say that we should take a proper trip there so may well take some of the other suggestions later in the year.
