Northern Ireland Forum

Open and frank discussion is good and there is merit in points raised by SB and others.

All the more strange then that SB has decided not to continue to reply to this thread after starting an interesting discussion and inviting comments. :nenau

It has left me thinking that despite his protestations there is something else behind all this. I may be wrong but after reading and reading this whole saga this is how it comes across to me.

The newly edited signature lines "forced to deny my existance" and "The only NI forum member" do nothing to dissuade me from my (newly formed) opinion. :(

SB

I just picked up on this thread a few mins ago. I do visit the site every day, just for a look. I thought the Ireland bit was so big, it didnt involve me.....so many people, most of whom I couldnt put a face to. I had previously considered the matter, just like SB.
Out of fear of appearing political, I would therefore leave things.. as is.
It's still a very big section though.
In the imortal words of Bart Simpson

I never knew the Nothern Ireland section as for me it has always been the Ireland section.

I have enjoyed this forum immensely and have met great biking kameraden that I perhaps might never otherwise have met.

I dont see having a N.I forum as being a big or divisive issue and I suppose it is only a couple of 'mouse clicks' away by our illustrious 'Creator'.

If this were to happen IMHO GSers being what they are would simply 'vote with their feet'. i.e. if they didn't want to visit it they simply wouldn't.

I personally believe that the Ireland forum has now become so strong that another regional forum wouldn't even deflect it.

I think this site is meant to provide fun, wit, wisdom, tech knowledge, fun, enjoyment, fun, travel info, fun and cameraderie!

Angst, deep meaningful stuff, soul-searching - aaaarrrrgggghhhhhh!!!!!

Keep the shiney side out!

*polite cough from the corner*

dunno if this helps, (somehow i feel i'll be told if it dont!) :D
but a suggestion/ compromise;
you know how the "for sale and wanted" section has an "eBay subsection".
well, would a "N.I" and a "R.O.I" subsection for truly "local" threads be a good way of keeping all happy? :nenau

i'm easy either way :bounce1

also - i'm the one that felt like i was a "foreigner / on the outside looking in" to U.K. GSers.
it never entered my head that anyone else felt this way about looking into an Ireland section :o and it is a valid point.

though the other point about information overload is equally valid....
oh fur gawds sake.... "damned if you do / damned if you dont"...
too true! :mmmm :D

last word from me;
i'm just happy to be here - in whatever format the collective sees fit :thumb

Schwarz, fair play to you for putting your head above the parapet to express your opinion. Despite your protestations I'm sure you were expecting some 'incoming'.

I'm not one for long reasoned argument so I'll just give you my personal opinion (for what thats worth).

Having joined after the expansion of the NI forum to an All Ireland one I can't comment on how things were previously but the thought occurs to me that if there had been 2 seperate forums I might have stayed in the southern one, found it less than exciting & buggered off to the 'club' site or elsewhere. The possibility remains that the same would happen with newbies seeing 2 forums.

While I have a habit in my posts of referring to you guys as 'nordies' etc I mean nothing disparaging by it & sincerely hope that its taken in the way its meant. I have met some great people through this site & the bulk of them are from the 6 counties. In fact I meet some of you tossers more than I meet my local friends. I have certainly enjoyed my riding in the north & with northerners.

Even though I might have no interest in peoples posts regarding Hursts, Harry's Tyres, et al I will still read the thread as it gives me a better understanding of the people posting AND I'm sure there'll be a wise crack or two in there as well ! I would however be less inclined to venture to a seperate forum.

Finally, I feel that a combined forum is bound to foster a greater understanding, & therefore tolerance, of all sides within this small but disparate group and that can only be a good thing, as far as I'm concerned.

Thank you for your time. Now lets get out there & ride the fcuking bikes :D

Aiden, I launched it, floated it, put my head above the parapet, it generated flak, as I expected, I'm a big boy now and can take it, it also has generated alot of comments and thought provoking statements. ie 'Discussion, and Debate',and some very patronising statements and lectures from those members who feel they have too.So I can't reply to every tosser here, and I have to go to bed sometime. But I do take time to reply to those who try to insult and snipe, and those who think I have an ulterior motive. I still feel the same as when I started the thread, but please understand and for fear of repeating myself, constantly. It would appear if you're from the North and proud of it, your either politacally motivated, or a sectarian, bigot, neither of which I am or aspire to be. No-one corrects you on your choice of location or language, and do I have to put smilies everywhere I post, so as not to offend. Its about freedom of choice, so choose away, no-ones gonna pull you for it, (well, only on here maybe).
So the next time we meet Big Fella, watch yourself, I'll probably buy ya a coffee, we have a lot to discuss.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
