Norway from UK, via Denmark - Summer 2009.

The youtube vids are really nice Adam.

Trying something like this myself but having problems.
Can you answer a couple of questions?

what format is the footage recorded in?
how big were the files you had to upload?
what resolution is the recording taken in?
did you have to edit the footage at all/reduce size?
how long did it take to upload files?

Sorry to be a pain and thanks.

I was working with two lots of raw footage.
Guys is 640x480, 1900kbps, 30f/s .wmv
Mine is 720x480, 3110kbps, 30f/s .avi

I've not yet found a format to upload them in where YT doesn't fuck it around tbh.
They keep changing the format which doesn't help
This is probably closest but lo res:
<object width="640" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kYKqhoX7TqI&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kYKqhoX7TqI&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="505"></embed></object>

They seem to have settled on a wide screen ratio at last tho, but tbh I have had enough of YT and am looking at vimeo as an alternative.
I did all the editing on windows moviemaker, which works fine for my purposes, but it does get a little crashy if you are using lots of files at once.

YT will only accept films <10 mins and <2GB so if you want to do longer you need to cut it into segments. Size wise that's not normally an issue. 10 mins is well under 1GB, most if mine under 500MB.
They take a LONG while to upload. I was getting about three uploaded overnight.

From Andalsnes we turned onto the 63 to ride the most excellent Trollstigen (Trolls ladder) Pass.
What an utterly fantastic place. Racetrack smooth tarmac, glorious hairpin bends and views to die for. Literally if you keep an eye on them too long.:evil
A definite highlight of the trip, if not quite my favourite....

AH, so your files are huge too.
So overnight is best for uploading.

The top video is as good as you ever get on you tube, in fact its excelent.
(In fact it makes me wish I was riding the bike:D).

Tried uploading direct from DV camcorder footage but TBH thats way too big. Using pinnacle studio to reduce files and edit.
Next time I am taking a helmet cam or something.

I think the footage is higher res on the ones I did on the latter half of the video report (if you click on HD):

I've just spent the evening reading through this amazing trip. I'm planning a trip for next May. I have about 10 days after a meeting in Odense. (I plan to ride from Hook of Holland) I'll probably bite the bullet like you and get the ferry back to Harwich from Esbjerg. I've got a couple of questions. I've been trying to see if you can book the Hirtshals to Kristiansand ferry on line but it seems you have to phone up. Did you manage to? Also, are those Touratech bottle holders on the back of standard ADV panniers. I was wondering if they'd fit. I was also wondering what you were carrying in them: fuel for the stove in the red one - but the others? was that part of your vodka stash?

Once again, great report,

Michael

Lucky git. :D
We were hoping for a return trip next summer too, but finances aren't looking too hot.:blast
TBH if I were to do it again I may take the hit and ride up and back...

Yes, both the Harwich and Hirtshals ferries were booked online.

big green button.
Choose the car package and then when it asks for vehicle details you can choose bike if I recall correctly.

Yes that is Funners' bike. The red was fuel and the blues are water. We carried a big plastic bottle from the supermarket for use "in camp" but the blue bottles were handy for roadside and emergency use if required.
Once again, great report,

Michael
Cheers. :)

Thanks for the link to Colour line. I don't know how I didn't find it. I splashed out on a sleeping bag last week that's meant to be comfortable down to -11 but it seems like you had warm weather!
Much appreciated,
Michael

Not sure what it got down to at night tbh, but yeah it was swealtering during the day. We were camped right at the snow line so I would guess quite low after the sun died down. My snugpak is rated -5 comfort and -11 extreme and it was fine.

Just read through all your report.

Now there's somewhere else I have to tour...
