Norway here we come - July 2024

Again, thanks all for the help and advice - tis greatly appreciated. I've yet to sit down and get stuck into the planning for the trip. Half of me is saying plan nothing and just follow the nice weather (if there is any!). But it's definitely good to have a few pointers on what to see and what to avoid. I think Nordkapp is a bit of a stretch - I'd rather spend our time stopping and seeing as opposed to just riding the length of Norway twice. Lofoten will be as far north as we'll go, if we even make it that far - there's a lot to see and do!

Booked flights and first and last night's accommodation. We fly in the evening before we collect the GS in Oslo. At the end of the trip we drop off the bike on a Saturday and fly home the following afternoon. Nice to do these things at a nice relaxed slow pace so there's rushing to offload the bike and make it to our flight. Found a lovely website for researching roads and places to see. Not just Norway based so well worth a look if you are planning a trip just about anywhere - Motorcycle Diaries

Getting the travel buzz now as things get closer. Wish we had 3 months to explore Norway - it deserves it - but we'll make the best of the time we have there. Hoping to put together a nice travel log of the trip.

Are you using Overlanders to ship the bikes Sean?

Yeah, decided it was the best option. Gives us the max amount of time on the bike in the place we want to ride it. Even if it turns out a touch pricier than riding there, it adds four days extra actually in Norway.

Thanks for sharing Motorcycle Diaries site. Had a quick look at their visit to Teruel Spain which i visited recently. Excellent

Won't be my cheapest bike trip, but fuck it, you can't bring it with you so you might as well spend it while you can 😊
Good man yourself Seán.

Bet you have never seen a hearse with a towbar on it.
There'll be money when we're dead.

I used Overlanders in 2019 to go to Norway, took the shuttle bus from Oslo airport to one of the carparks and was able to pick up the bike on the Friday, so I was ready to go early on the Saturday morning. When I returned the bike on the Saturday, the bike was back in Ireland on the following Tuesday. They run a great service.

Have a look here, it might give you some ideas.

Cheers for that Phil - much appreciated. That's an excellent trip report with plenty of food for thought. Might well be following in your tyre treads in a couple of places. Thanks again. (y)

And so the time has arrived. One more sleep and then its off to Dublin airport to fly to Oslo and meet the GS. Plan is to roll out Saturday morning and head west towards the fjords. Weather forecast is looking a tad wet on Monday, but I'll be on me hollybops so I don't give a shite.:p:DD

Hope you both have a great time Sean; it was a wonderful experience. I know you’re not going all the way to the top, and I think in the time you have that’s a very wise decision, as there is so much to see in the areas you are planning to go to. If you go to the Mo i Rana Artic Circle visitors centre, make sure you cover all your exposed bits in Skin so Soft if you don’t want to get eaten alive.
