Norway here we come - July 2024

Along our route we pulled over at the Skjervsfossen Waterfall. It's great the way you can see it from both angles.

Took the opportunity to leave a calling card. Before you berate me, it was slotted in between many other folks stickers so as not to upset anyone.

Interesting set of instructions in the jax about how not to miss the bowl.

Then there's me holding onto a tree for dear life! 😊 Checkout the rainbow from the waterfall spray. Beautiful.IMG20240722154847.jpgIMG20240722155908.jpgIMG20240722153944.jpgIMG20240722153607.jpg

Eventually we pass through Voss and then head due south to Voss Lodge Rongastovo, our home for tonight. This spot is a bit more rustic than our previous stays, but in no way does it disappoint. Big room with kitchenette, also a communal kitchen onsite. Lots of outdoor space to enjoy too. We unload the bike and then shoot back into Voss to stock up on dinner and brekkie bits. And beer 😎. The 20min spin each way is a joy, shame we didn't forget to buy something, would've happily nipped back again if needed! 😅 Some pretty funky furniture adds to the charm of the place.
Neighbour's house was in a beautiful setting with a wee waterfall nearby. Stunning.
Our place had a Husqvarna robot mower which held me transfixed for far too long. I kept on watching to see where it would go next. I need help! 😅IMG20240723121327.jpgIMG20240723121321.jpgIMG20240723121250.jpgIMG20240722211353.jpgIMG20240722211315.jpgIMG20240722211609.jpgIMG20240722212351.jpgIMG20240723122144.jpg

Here's a question for any Norwegians on the forum. Spotted this marker firmly attached to a rock on the side of the road. A Google image search reveals a link to the Swedish Road Administration, but no insight into the purpose of the marker. Answers welcome 👍IMG20240722212942.jpg

In post #23 the Swedish manufacturer was shortened to ASEA AB, now ASEA Brown Boveri or ABB for short. One of our clients for reinsurance.

PS Google tells me that the swastika logo was removed in 1933, due to the sign’s association with Nazi Germany. It didn’t stop the Swedes selling iron ore and ball bearings to the Germans during the war though.

Our next destination is only an hour and 15 mins away if we travel direct, so we plan a nice sightseeing detour to occupy our time until the 5pm check in time. We head towards Ulvik and beyond in the direction of Austdølvatnet. I'd spotted this road in advance of leaving home, but little did we realise what was in store. Oh my lord.

So, back to our wee sightseeing trip...after we reached Ulvik we decided to look out for a spot to enjoy a brew. Didn't spot anywhere in town so we tootled on. And we struck gold. Along with our coffees we indulged in apple pancakes and a selection of toppings. Heaven. All in a lovely spot alongside a wee river. Off with the bike boots and in with the toesy's!IMG20240723151713.jpgIMG20240723151752.jpgIMG20240723150727.jpgIMG20240723145239.jpgIMG20240723151310.jpgIMG20240723150244.jpgIMG20240723153926.jpgIMG20240723154458.jpg

According to YouTube I have to verify my identity before I can upload more videos. So after this post it'll be still pics till that's sorted. Weird, because I'm pretty sure I'm me, and have been for quite some time. Anyways, here's a sample of the road we found ourselves on.

That Church is great. lovely, but expensive tea room there too, Notodden is great, been there 3 times with Gov't Mule and Warren Haynes at the Blues Festival.

Enjoying this -

coincidentally ABB have a few locations in Ireland

Camping is a really big thing here. Lots of campsites, tents, caravans and campervans. These modern style caravans are quite common. Quite like the idea of them as they are neater than those towbar monstrosities you see at home.
No horse drawn though ?

Grew up with them around me every summer. Family business involved renting them out out to the tourists. No sign of 'em over here though. Half the roads would be too steep!
