I am thinking of an expedition upto the Arctic Circle next summer, possibly alone.

is it safe to camp out wild? Any crime? Wild beasts? Women? :D

I have read on here that gas Stations are few and far between up north. Is this a problem for a motorcyclist?

Thanks in advance

Andy

Don't go over 50mph and you will be fine(forgive the pun): the biggest danger to bikers is having their wallet emptied for speeding :D

Really.....No he isn't......!

If you're really lucky some stretches of the E6 Arctic Highway are 90kph but most is 80kph.

Check out 'The E6 Norway's Arctic Highway' by John Douglas it's a good read.

As for fuel the E6 is better than you'd think, last time I rode my HP2 up over the 'Arctic Circle' and it only had a 13 litre fuel tank(200km) I never ran out although came close a couple of times.

If you like Pine fresh Flash, Abba and Ikea you can cross into Sweden north of the Arctic Circle and ride down the Inlandsbann.....the speed limit there is a eye watering 110kph no less......!

Phew, glad I rode to Nordkapp in 1984 and 1990...

Way before speed cameras etc. were in use :augie

He isn't joking, but they are all being big ole drama queens about it.

Funners and me did 2500 miles around Norway in 2009.

IIRC we saw 3 police cars in the entire time.
All three were in fairly built up areas, where it was obviously going to be policed so we were sticking to the limit.
Out in the mountains tho, speeding isn't the issue some would have you believe.
We cruised at about 80mph for the most part, same as we do in the UK.
Christ, who is going to nick you for speeding out here?:nenau

Just don't go stupid speeds in stupid places, same as I'd hope you wouldn't in the UK. Yes the consequences of being caught are FAR higher, but the chances are FAR lower if you think about what you are doing and where and how you are riding...

As for your other questions about wild camping safety, just get on with it...
Its one of the least crime ridden countries going...

Nice vids Adam, which also highlight the level of traffic Norway riders have to cope with...

Re: dangerous indigenous wildlife: trolls of course. Stay in sunlight, and away from caves, under bridges, and souvenir shops.

That Book seems to be rarer than rocking horse poo, or as expensive as unobtainium.
Amazon.co.uk list it for between £46 (new) - £58 (used).
Waterstones list it for £105!!! ffs
However Amazon.de state its not available
Amazon.com do list it for $28 delivered with between 1-3 month delivery times. Which probably means is not available.

Anyone got a 2nd hand copy they`re willing to pass on to me??

Hi All
Great place Norway, I got stopped for speeding £330 for 7 km over the 50km limit!  :eek

I received my last ticket in the mid eighties. Just be careful on roads like E6 and in the 50/60 kmph zones. Never mind the cameras, they only snap pictures from the front.

The real danger is the unmarked vehicles, incl 4 bikes. Take a close look when passing, and take notice of cars suddenly following you. In general, you will be left alone if you do e.g. 120 in the 100 zone and don't ride stupid. But if you fly into a speedtrap, they have to take you, even for 3kmph.

In the North of Sweden, there are only mozzies and moose. Go flat out! :thumb
