I'm planning a trip to Norway and wondered if anyone can advise on the following:

Immingham to Brevik ferry route - leaves at 5am, but what time do you need to check in? Website seems to say 10pm night before?

Petrol prices - how much a litre is it in western Norway? Assuming it is more expensive further north?

How much per day should I budget for food, assuming buying at supermarkets and self catering for evening meals, but light lunches at cafes during day or snacks from petrol stations?

Thanks for any help you can provide

Dave

Calling Artyhexhead ...

Himself did the trip via that route last year. Speaks very highly of the ferry. Send him a PM.

Depending on how long your say in Norway is you can buy a mug with lid and sticker in a Statoil petrol station for NK200 and then get free coffee in all other Statoil stations (Normally NK20 per mug).

Most petrol stations do fast food at reasonable prices a hotdog is about NK41 and a medium burger and chips was NK104

in the Spar at Aurland 2 Pizza slices 2 danish pastries and 2 bottles of water came to NK103

Hope that helps. :thumb2

Enjoy your trip and keep to speed limits! :D

Hi Mike

Thanks. I had read about the coffee at the petrol stations. Prices for food really useful. Not as bad as I thought it might be.

Still in planning stage. Think we may stay is fjord region but thinking about trip up to arctic circle.

@davem Any joy from DFDS? As you say - their own website has conflicts about when the Ship goes, when you should be there and when the Terminal is open.
I presume emailing DFDS should sort that? Maybe?
I'm just back from the middle of Sweden. That was over 3000 miles, travelling from Newcastle-IJmuiden.
So next year a different route maybe as I've been using the Ferry from Newcastle for yonks.
No other UKGSers taken a bike on this route?

I have only explored the south and south west up to Alesund. There are some fantastic roads to be found. Google maps is really useful to plan your route. I have a few vids if your interested. just be careful because on the maps you will find that a brown road is sometimes a dirt track! :D

May be worth seeing if you can book ferries through These people mightyfinecompany.
as their prices are better than I could get from DFDS. I also got them to book the hotels as well.

Remember to stick to the speed limits!!!! :thumb2

Good points Mike L. In Sweden, the GREY roads on the Zumo are gravel. Deadly accurate mapping too - where the colour changes, exactly where the gravel starts. Then you crap yourself fully loaded two up on Trail Attacks wishing you'd left the TKC wheels on!

Snap! I made Mrs L get off when we got to the steep hairpins on loose gravel. I would never of heard the end of it if I dropped her.... (Mrs L) :D In all fairness the Conti Trail Attacks did well. :thumb2

Arty_hexhead very kindly told me he turned up at 10 so he could find the place in daylight, but was told to come back after 12. There is a 24 hour cafe close by so at least somewhere to shelter if it's stonking down ;)
