Norway to carry on ...

Bod - my last visit 3yrs ago if suggestions on deciding a route helps:

Harwich to Esbjerg seeing as the Newcastle Ferry had gone.

North to Hirtshals via the beach roads that run up the west of Denmark.

Hirtshals to Kristiansand for cheap and cheerful overnighter.

Kristiansand to Stavanger to Bergen then over the Hardagervidda Plateau (If you're into WW2 you will naturally come across the hard-water power station the Norwegian Resistance and a few Commandos did the business on and the port where the ferry left laiden with hard water). This has to be a once in a lifetime ride seeing Norway in all its glory!

Down to Oslo and ferry home or south through a rather boring west coast of Sweden until you get deep south and cross the islands - into Germany then back home via Rotterdam/Zeebrugge to Hull:thumb

If anyone hasn't gone this far back in the posts - this is definably worth a look.

Denmark Route

Possibly the only vaguely interesting road in the whole of Denmark:D:thumb

I am riding from Hamburg up to Hirtshals to pick up the ferry to Iceland. I plan to ride up the western coastal roads, are they very slow i.e. speed limits? I intend to camp, there seem to be plenty of campsite options?

Yes, plenty of campsites and you can make good progress with some interesting places and thatched houses on the way. :thumb

You don't need to go fast in Norway because there's too much amazing scenery to look at when you're riding!:blast

There hasn't been a ferry from Shetland to Norway for years either!:blast

No news on the 'Toon' ferry resuming anytime soon either!:blast

Norway's still an amazing place to visit though but then so's Shetland, The Western Isles and the Highlands so it's not all bad news!:D

Going to be a bit awkward for me getting to Scandanavia so it's off to Shetland for a week at the end of the month instead.........Always seems a bit more Norweigian than Scottish up there and at least the beers a wee bit cheaper.......Not sure about the petrol though!
