Ok, maybe just a bit.
Just had my 2011 twin cam GSA dealer serviced for its 6k.
Noticed the previous service last year it had Castrol power 1racing 10/40 fully synthetic but apparently the new recommended oil is Power 1 15/50 semi synthetic which was used at my service. I'm not really bothered as to be honest I always thought fully synthetic oil in a boxer was a waste of money. Even though its a twin cam I'd be happy enough with the old Act Evo mineral.
Has anyone recently had this semi 15/50 oil used by their dealer.
Just curious as to to why manufacturers constantly change recommendations.
There, not really an oil question as I don't give a shit as long as its not cooking oil in my sump.
I await the usual abuse.

And here was me thinking I'd start a massive oil thread.
Foiled again.
What do the numbers mean. 15/50 ? Buggered if I know.

15w means you cant see where you are going but when it warms up its like a 50w so you can see.

Hope that helps. ;)

I had the opposite experience. Semi-synthetic up to first service when full synthetic used. Didn't use a drop of synthetic but used a fair bit of the full synthetic. Back on semi at last service at my request, not used a drop.

Bike used travelling to and fro Crete so used a lot in hot temps. (BMW specify 20-50 mineral in Greece albeit with more frequent oil changes.

In my opinion full synthetic is a waste of money on an ancient air cooled twin design

IMO full synth is a waste on most engines designed before 2000 and anything air cooled. Its just too thin. I used it in a VW TDI and it burnt oil like a 2 stroke. There was almost no oil use on semi synth. My Diversion 900 also used oil on full synth but not on semi.

Tell me this wasn't a post 2000 TDI PD.....:blast

My 2002 PD 130 (Audi A4) had the "standard" long life oil and was sold showing 22K just after its first service. The car in question was a 1995 Passat 1.9/90. Bought showing 33K. Sold with 115K when I bought the Audi.
