Found this whilst looking for a how to fit the air filter on my 12GS I got from my other half at xmas.

Yes i know, I should know how, but I wanted some basic guidance. Like where is it !!!

Anyway, read on... Should I fit it and be free of paranoia or just leave it, or should i fit it and do an oil change every 3k ?

(I do not do any off-road riding)

Air Filter Test

Hi
On rhs of bike remove small black plastic panel ( pulls off ) behind that is the snorkel, to remove this pull out 2 plastic pins and slide snorkel towards you. the old filter then falls out and replace with K N

Takes about 4 minutes
I fitted mine and it seems to have a little more Torque

Thanks Greg,

Did you look at the link. Or speed read the graphs. I bumped into it on a gs info web site. I must have been really bored at work earlier, as i found it quite interesting that someone would take so much time in performing such a comprehensive air filter test !!

I've had mine fitted since the bike had about 60 miles on it and I'm sure it sounds/feels better etc.

It was a pain to the two clips off the airbox but once done it dead easy to fit. There is a diagram in your owners manual about the air filter so you can use that as reference.

I've had mine fitted for 10,000 miles with no ill effects :thumb After dooing the fuel filler mod I can get anywhere between 200-230 miles per tank. You could probably get more if you spent your life going on organised ride-outs with the IAM!

In fact on 10 months of ownership since new my bike has been 100% trouble-free! :thumb

Get it fitted and enjoy.

thanks Stoney.

I have done the petrol tank mod, and if i brim it and use optimax or equivalent, then i have managed to get 265 miles out of a tank. Involved super sensible motorway miles at 70ish riding though. twas summer too.
The reserve mile counter was down to 2 as well !!

Off to Lulworth cove now, so will fit it when the riding weather is worse....

Looks like your link speaks for itself. Bottom line, how much dirt do you want in your engine?

Changing your oil more frequently will not help. By the time the dirt gets to the oil it's already done the damage.
