Hi

I have imported a route in to the Nav V from Basecamp, but when I look at the map on the Nav V it is not the same as on Basecamp, its has followed nodes and waypoints then suddenly does a 50mile detour, this is not on the Basecamp map.

Any suggestions, as I have checked all preferences, all are twisty roads along with same avoidances.

Help

Are the maps the same edition on your computer and your device?

Was the route created on the same edition of map originally?

Do you have 'Auto recalculate' on your device turned on, turned off or set to prompted? If set to prompted do you touch yes or no?

What happens if you turn the 'wiggly roads' option on your device off?

Check your avoidances. If you have avoided say toll roads on your device and you have inserted a short stretch of payage, then the device will recalculate to avoid it.

There are lots of possible reasons why you are getting the result. These are just a starter. I had a similar problem when I imported a route, created by a friend of mine. He had created it in a different version of map and using his own 'Car' mode setting. On recalculation into my Nav V, the route was altered significantly. The golden rule? Always check your routes on import.

I had this recently on a really old SatNav

Humvee had created the routes on Basecamp, however the maps on my unit are 10 years old

When I activated the route, it said 'the route didn't follow my maps'

I chose the 'use it anyway' option an chose not to recalculate at that point

Once the route had been determined in the unit - but was obviously different to other peoples, I then went into route options & chose to then recalculate the route, choosing faster time option & it then calculated perfectly

The 2610 with out of date mapping is a very clever SatNav

Intuitive as ever

I usually tell Basecamp to create a track from any route I want to send to the Nav V and transfer that, along with the route to the Nav V. Then, on the unit itself, tell it to display the track (I find it best to choose black as the track colour for good visibility). This way, should I leave the route for any reason, or if the route for some reason be different from what I intended, I always have the track there in the correct position (Basecamp will not recalculate tracks), which I can navigate "by eye".

I checked the maps and they appeared to be the same but worded differently, BC showed City Navigator Europe NTU 2015.2 were the NAV V showed CN NTU 2015.2.

Anyway, decided to reimport maps to both and that seems to have done the trick, good job I had my old 660, bless her

Hi Chris

How do you tell the Nav 5 to display the track? Can you get it to display the route and track at the same time? Do you create the track from the same screen as you change the points not to announce?

Sorry for the questions but I want to get this right and Garmin don't help much with info for dummies!

Cheers
Dave

If you are plotting a route using basecamp it matters not which setting, fastest, shortest etc as long as both the device and the computer are both the same.
The create tracks thing in my mind is un necessary for routing on the unit and only comes into its own for recreatiing a route on base camp from the device.
