Not my best day ever.

Or was there any damage to your helmet? Expensive item to be replacing if it had.

Anyway, would anyone like to guess at the repair estimate for my bike?

Insurance assesor/dealer price estimate will be ridiculously high for stuff that can be filed smooth or straightened and repainted.

Or at worst replaced at home with used parts.

It was only nerfed onto its side wasn't it....and looked rideable from the scene.

It's supposed to be a ruffty tuffty round the world bike isn't it...wear the scars with pride.

If I was paying Tarka I may well have just patched up, but drunk drivers deserve to have their insurance hammered (although I suppose it costs us all indirectly).
Besides, I'm wearing plenty of scars already, I don't need any more.
I did ride the bike from the scene with a driving lamp in my pocket and the headlight pointing up to the stars.
The final drive was scraped which I imagine wasn't cheap, and also one front fork leg, but I've no idea how the total got to over £4K.
I'd much rather the whole event hadn't happened, I won't be coming out on top in this whole episode.

I see the driver is taking pics to remind him of the day he lost his license.......:jager
:D:D:D

Was your bike clothing torn? Worth claiming for?
Rallye 2 jacket elbow and shoulder scraped,as well as palm of right glove. Have sent receipts, will see what happens.

I'd also get checked out for any injuries - stuff shoulder sore back etc - you never know.
Got a skinned left knee where I battered his wing mirror off :D and a bruised right shin. Got a few other aches and pains as well.
The first people my insurance company transferred me to after I notified them of the accident were no win no fee solicitors, they're like vultures.

Got a BMW system 6 with a scraped visor and chin piece. Difficult to know if it's been compromised, but it certainly won't have been improved by the event.

When my K1100RS was knocked over in a car park about 8 years ago now, I had everything possible replaced even if it had a scratch. It wasn't my fault so why should I put up with any damage? It included fairing panels, mirror, handlebars, pannier lid, alarm and anything else with a scratch or didn't work. I rode mine home too. Total cost to repair was £1,800. I asked for and got all the old stuff that was replaced so I have a few spares now should I need them and can always sell them on if I sell the bike.

Glad you are ok . I had a T max knocked over a couple of years ago , me not on it £4500 damage ! as all panels were scraped new exhaust etc . It was a Day old
Yours should be fine when you get it back just check it over before you accept it :thumby:

My view only but perhaps that is one reason why insurance is so high - by all means get the bits that were directly damaged replaced but to lob another load on that was not attributable to the incident is a bit like claiming for that Rolex that went flying off down the road too - no win/no fee buggars don't help either.

We all do what we are comfortable with, my zone stops just this side of the above

Just sayin'

Maybe I wasn't clear - I had everything replaced that had been damaged as a result of the bike being knocked over - even if it was just a scratch. If I had been paying for the repairs I wouldn't have bothered.

.

Actually, yes indeed...I've got to agree with that...hammer the twat. :thumb

ask to make sure to keep the old parts the dealer replace - as they hold sentimental value to you.. then either sell them or keep them, as they are sentimental to you and will come in of use at some point.

The difference to your insurance of a claim based on 100% as new replacements and a fit-for-purpose fair wear and tear claim will be diddly squat so you might as well go the whole hog. Same happened to me last year and it cost £3500 in parts.

I'd want a new engine if the engine was running with the bike on its side.....................just to be on the safe side:D

Unfortunately Bez I was put directly in contact with some firm called Thorneycroft Solicitors, hope they're OK.
My insurance is with BMW Motorrad so I'd like to think they will see me alright - we'll see!!!

Doesn't matter. White Dalton can take over the case. And tell the Ambulance Chasers to do one.
They really are a good bunch. Worth a call to them still.

Looks like Thorneycroft are just personal injury lawyers. Don't specialise in motorcycle claims.

From White Dalton:- If you are unhappy with your current solicitor, change. You cannot be forced to use a particular solicitor, changing is easy and we'll take you through it step-by-step

I'm not on their payroll just have worked with them through the Legion.

Two years ago a customer had his bike knocked off its stand by a car nudging it while parking - Bmw park lane insurance quote was £4800 - he brought the bike to me for an estimate - which was £500 using brand new genuine BMW parts . The insurance assessor said the price difference was too much and I'd have to increase my estimate ..... I raised it to £1200, insurance were.happy. So was the owner because I told the insurance company to send him the cheque for the amount and he'll pay me. He bought the parts and paid me and it all cost him the original quote of £500. The main dealers and authorised insurance repairers know exactly how much they can quote before the price reaches the write off value which explains the absurd estimates given for such minor damage, which also means they get the maximum work and parts out of the claim. That's why our insurance increases year on year .

Wish I'd know this a fortnight ago. I'd have trailered it up to you for repair, had a full titanium system fitted, a pair of Wilbers WESA shocks and spent the remainder on a month long trip in Europe this summer. :beerjug: maybe next time.

Just bought an 05 Bonneville Speedmaster (Cat C) off the owner who'd had the 'accident' on it.

31500 miles with a PAV of £3300. Insurance company claimed £4827 worth of damage using new parts

To get it back on the road it needed a new headlamp (used £30), the forks straightening in their yokes (30 minutes of my time), the front wheel straightening (Motoliner £60) and a fresh MOT (£28)

Yes the fuel tank still had a golf ball sized dent in it and the offside silencer was still scratched but those two items alone totalled over £900 and as I said it has done 31500 miles :augie
