kinda gave the game away, the trip ends successfully me back in the UK, but with a lung infection and a trip to A+E...
I will be popping back in July the history of the place is bonkers, the tail end of the war lead to the northern rat run, if you like spy stuff and secret war stuff... as a region it has loads to offer. the Huettener Berge (very small hills) is a very dangerous motorcycling area, and really good fun to zip around, the roads are the usual tree lined affair so if it goes tit's up, you will hit a tree.... and then probably drown in the deep ditch next to the road.
Side issues cos I like a challenge and the beauty of moving parts I lined up the collection of a hat for a forum member that was it's own story... cos the delivery driver was unable to find the house slap bang in the middle nowhere.... so my cousin got involved and she arranged that bit.... I I brought it back....
there was the usual roadside refreshement stops and I also shot some video which is unusual I should really have a look at that
On the historical side
the war was ended and for a month the germans caught north of Kaiser Wilhelm Kanal aka Kiel Baltic/ north sea Canal just carried on, Dornitz hitlers appointed leader. Just cariied on, hitler's Portrait remained over the mantle pieces and the Allied forces didn't engage with'em till the British captured Dornitz... then they went house to house to clear and disarm the popluation... but for a month there was time to hide all manner of stuff.
I know for a fact many families buried trunks, so from a treasure hunting perspective would you go to Austria and believe some likely story "they threw it all in this lake!" you know lakes that are really deep and you can't fish out what you might well need to buy your way out of the jam... or would you think I know I'll go to the last place on earth anyone would bother looking, on route to sweden...
uniforms, yup I can see that they'd throw them away or get burnt, but good stuff...?
So I'll be going back in the summer, the weather should have done it's work, leaving the place ready for a looky looky.......
where else can you have Breakfast on the Baltic, mid morning coffee on the North sea, be in Danemark for lunch and have drinks in Hamburg Atlantic Hotel.... to have a mooch about the RaperBahn in the evening
Northern Germany the "True North" a "the land between the Seas" is a wonder a crossing point for well over 1,000 years and the people well they're something else. hardened off by the weather but cheerful and welcoming to a returning son of the soil
Plus I now also want to go on the Sigyn a reconstruction of a small 7t Viking ship which sails the Schlei the longest Fjord in Northern Germany between June and July...
there's the viking festival (bit odd, but loads of booze and wildboar skewers makes a cracking day out)
