Not really a road trip, apart from it's a trip on the road...

sorry been ill, the duffed up knee has lead to pluracy anda pretty lengthy journey... resulted in a trip to the GP who panicked and thought I was having a PE pulanary embolism or blood clot from the tear in the knee... so I got a free ride to A+E.....

resting heart rate 160 spo 91% and blood pressure through the roof....

turns out I was just abit worn out, and stressed about stuff....

the summary is being brewed up but I'll be going back in July cos then the puddle must have soaked away.

So could you not have kept up the report while you were lying there with nothing to do except feeling poorly ? :D
Only messin', in your own time :beerjug:

So could you not have kept up the report while you were lying there with nothing to do except feeling poorly ?
it was a pretty serious poorly feeling, so bad the wife made me go to the GP's

which is serious... when she gets involved.... plus I have to obey cos she knows where I sleep... which means I have to be affraid of her.... for professional reasons

kinda gave the game away, the trip ends successfully me back in the UK, but with a lung infection and a trip to A+E...

I will be popping back in July the history of the place is bonkers, the tail end of the war lead to the northern rat run, if you like spy stuff and secret war stuff... as a region it has loads to offer. the Huettener Berge (very small hills) is a very dangerous motorcycling area, and really good fun to zip around, the roads are the usual tree lined affair so if it goes tit's up, you will hit a tree.... and then probably drown in the deep ditch next to the road.

Side issues cos I like a challenge and the beauty of moving parts I lined up the collection of a hat for a forum member that was it's own story... cos the delivery driver was unable to find the house slap bang in the middle nowhere.... so my cousin got involved and she arranged that bit.... I I brought it back....

there was the usual roadside refreshement stops and I also shot some video which is unusual I should really have a look at that

On the historical side

the war was ended and for a month the germans caught north of Kaiser Wilhelm Kanal aka Kiel Baltic/ north sea Canal just carried on, Dornitz hitlers appointed leader. Just cariied on, hitler's Portrait remained over the mantle pieces and the Allied forces didn't engage with'em till the British captured Dornitz... then they went house to house to clear and disarm the popluation... but for a month there was time to hide all manner of stuff.

I know for a fact many families buried trunks, so from a treasure hunting perspective would you go to Austria and believe some likely story "they threw it all in this lake!" you know lakes that are really deep and you can't fish out what you might well need to buy your way out of the jam... or would you think I know I'll go to the last place on earth anyone would bother looking, on route to sweden...

uniforms, yup I can see that they'd throw them away or get burnt, but good stuff...?

So I'll be going back in the summer, the weather should have done it's work, leaving the place ready for a looky looky.......

where else can you have Breakfast on the Baltic, mid morning coffee on the North sea, be in Danemark for lunch and have drinks in Hamburg Atlantic Hotel.... to have a mooch about the RaperBahn in the evening

Northern Germany the "True North" a "the land between the Seas" is a wonder a crossing point for well over 1,000 years and the people well they're something else. hardened off by the weather but cheerful and welcoming to a returning son of the soil

Plus I now also want to go on the Sigyn a reconstruction of a small 7t Viking ship which sails the Schlei the longest Fjord in Northern Germany between June and July...

there's the viking festival (bit odd, but loads of booze and wildboar skewers makes a cracking day out)

so I've been watching and rewatching the Mark Felton pieces about the northern rat run....

as we're now starting to gear up for the July trip to Germany and to look for more good stuff....

and cake, coffee, schnitzel, beer... which brought back and I've now drunk....

ooooh nazi rat runs....I knew I was onto something

must book my ferry tickets and charge the metal detector up.... cos the treasure is calling to me...!

can't be long now, for round 2. However I've had 2 more chest infections possibly from my fall.... That have really knocked me flat, coughing up bits of yourself is not exactly what I had planned..... Plus the physio for my knee has also been going on for ever and everything still hurts...

So we'll have to see how this goes the plan is simple

stick canoe on roof, go to germany, have another search of the now not flooded laying up point for the Engerisch ... then canoe the schlei if possible attend the viking festival and have a few beers....

just catching up with stuff.... and this is still unresolved in my mind

The northern route is still of interest, as it also involves the werewolves the german SF units of the Brandenburger regiment

So the packing is starting today/ tomorrow.... which mostly involves finding all the empty beer bottles, to take back to get my refunds and buy more beer.... :augie so this trip has eco friendly credentials...

I've got to dust down our sit on canoe, pack all those bits needed for that..... As we're planning to explore the Schlei abit more for the full trip which starts at Maasholm on the baltic and corsses Schleswig Holstein and ends in Friedrichstadt... a sort of Human Race powered only my people, on the water with a team of logistics types following on...

This year we won't make it in time for the Viking festival.... (it's was just an excuse to drinking meade and have assorted BBQ stuff anyway).... Hence I'm already planning 2027 as I really need a ticket for the Sigyn the replica Viking Long Boat which has sailing between June and July

if you wanna have a go, on a Viking ship, you can book tickets on the above portal page.

and once we've mucked about in the canoe, and got bored of that then I guess the search for the mysterious treasure can continue.... as trips have to have a reason/ purpose otherwise it's just movement without progress.

As Mr. Felton explains "the very naughty people" at the end of the war, basically spent more time stealing stuff and trying to make good their escape.... than doing their day jobs....! but let's not forget rats leaving a sinking ship are still rats.... these folks where rats with heavy suitcases.

Which interestingly appears to have happened on both sides of the war, as the rogue hero's of the fledgling UK/ allied special forces did much the same.... As Churchill put it in his address to thew troops leaving to liberate Europe with his simple message of "good hunting!"

"On the balance of probability they did this" here you have to make up your own minds if it's right or wrong,. Would your moral compass allow the corssing of that line...? They may well have robbed anyone that had an unexplained quantity of dosh/ other portable wealth/ about their person/ used their skills to open up buildings that may well have been banks and took the bread for themselves.... after all, the justification would be "might as well get paid....!" for doing a tough job... plus war is hell.....!

best of all "if you can get away with it why not, do it..?"

more to follow once I've emptied the garage of bottles, obviously it's not that simple I need to plan the route

London - Frankfurt am Main
Frankfurt am Main - Schleswig Holstein
Massholm - Lighthouse (Leuchturm) at the very edge of the Schlei/ Baltic and then in land....

but we'll need to stop at the Schell Imbiss for some food first....
