Hello all,

I just want to tell you that small story that happent to me yeasteday.:spitfire

(a nice day,I was riding through the Swiss alps) when after a stop for refueling,(as I am smarter than the commun rider),I decided to take a short cut at the exit of the gas station, and pass over a small wall (~3 inches hight)at verry low speed, when I heard a big noise ,scrrrrr,I thought I lost the bash plate, and made a hole in the cat  : :eek ....
After checking if nobody was looking at me,:hide , I stoped and looked for the damages... in fact, nothing terrible,it was just the center stand who scraped the wall, but what a noise and feeling!!!

I guess, after the front wheel was over the wall, the rear schock goes down and, at this time, there is not much ground clearance left under the center stand.

So,if you too want to experiment to roll over a side walk,or parking wall, you can not say that you havent been warned! :D

Thanks for reading all that, for your effort, you get a picture as a reward!:P

I think you were just to slow :)

I'm doing that often but at normal speed !

should have just spanked it hard over the curb...

Also is that jesus walking on water in the background? towards the little island.......:bow

He's coming over to checkout the 1200, perhaps he's considering a change of transport himself.

Doing the lord's work in style?

Always had jesus down as Harley rider

No I didn't start this ground clearance thread. :augie :D

Anyway, there is no chance of hitting the bash plate going over a 3 inch wall.

You are not telling us the whole truth man.

OK OK, you all are making fun of me :thedummy, never mind....guess I deserve it! shoud not have started a new thread with so little to say...:blast

True,my bike and me dont really appreciate to be laying in a mud hole, but it happent some time...just cant remember when :D
I do about 10 % off road,TKC really help, but also true, for mostly road use like I do,they dont really worth it.

But anyway,I keep your names in mind, you all lost the last chance to get a free beer at my place :eyebrow

and by the way,I also noticed you are faithless ....

But it's worth having TKCs just for that 10%......you are alone and see a track, wonder where it goes, then go and find out:clap

do I get a free beer now:beer::D

I get the centre stand bottom-out pretty regular too, even on hardest suspension setting. Admittedly it only really ever happens when hitting a severeish dip in the road and at speed, but it's still a bit naff.
The sidestand catches too mid bend. Im pretty heavy I suppose (6'4 and just under 17 stone) but am surprised it does this so easily.
Stiffer springs next, or uprated suspension, but its disappointing.

I think you must be doing something odd to your suspension then, because I'm (ahem) a little heavier than you :o and have never managed to hit my centre stand. Nor the side stand on corners, but that's more likely to be because I ride like a big girl's blouse.

So you have TKC with just 10% off road?
I must keep you in mind too.

(but no matter, you can still get a beer if you visit)

So how much do you ride anyway?

Hi Snodog

No, Ive been through the manual and the rear is set to max firmness. The fron end is on teh second setting from soft but any firmer its into off road settings as i understand it. Ive had a few BMWs and the remote preload has always been run firm. I had Ohlins on the Boxer Cup and they transformed it.
The bike handles really well, nice and firm but this issue does occur more than I'd like.

I recognise those mountains

Photo taken during a tour of Europe with my daughter Skye in 2005 in a Fiat Punto.

Loved the views in Switzerland but they don't like being overtaken :rob

Some more photos here http://homepage.mac.com/skyeweb/Eurotrip/PhotoAlbum7.html

and Stelvio one here http://web.mac.com/skyeweb/iWeb/panasonic/Stelvio.html

Can't wait to revisit Europe, this time on my R1200GS.

I once took a shortcut in a lorry and suddenly noticed a drop infront of me but was too late to stop and ended up with the lorry balanced over a 1-2 ft wall. Took quite a bit to get it free :o
