Looks like a 'crack' in the powder coat, not the cast. I would pick off the flaking coating to make sure and then try it up / touch it up with a bit of hammerite smooth silver......

Nope, I mean what is the worst that can happen ???

It does appear, certainly in second shot that it is only the coating that is going.

I'd rub it down to clean bare surface, mini dremmels are brilliant, and then silver smoothrite.

Early bikes with the shaft and bevel finished in silver tend to do very well for a BMW, lasting around a quarter of the life you’d expect of a properly made Japanese bike

Later grey finished bikes can be a rotten pig in 4 years. If you find a grey one at 10 years without mega bubbles you won the lottery or are on drugs, Most are well gone before 7 years are up. Anyone else think its odd how a jap bike can last 40 years without any issue, yet a k1600's crank cases and forks have had it at 2 years?
