went for a good ride today....normal riding is fine but when im a bit more aggressive on the throttle
the clutch slips...open the throttle accelerating hard and revs go up then settle back down...feels viby till it stops slipping...
so I had a look at the manual and theres no way I can do it myself....
can a normal bike mechanic do this job for me or will I have to remorgage and get main dealer to do this...
any idea haw much this would cost me at a main dealer....

Plenty of independent BMW servicing places around. Have a search on here, but Steptoe, Mikeboy and Motoscot are a couple that are members on here.

Don't laugh, but have you checked the hand guard to make sure it's not slipped and nipping the lever .Don't ask me how I know about this problem !!

A shit load of money, and your left testicle...

It isn't rocket science, you need space, a decent toolkit, a manual and time.

Honestly, think of all the thing's you thought you couldn't achieve and yet did.

A positive mental attitude helps; and I am positively mental 😊

There's lot's of help here, some well meant, other's.....hmm.

You could of course discuss the matter with the dealer you bought bike from and see if something mutual agreeable can be worked out.

What have you to lose by asking ?

Did you get it from a main dealer ?
Have you had the bike long ?
As others have suggested, have a word with them first.
An independent not too far from you - http://www.stroudmc.co.uk/

got it from a bike shop in oxford....am going to see him on Monday...he does give 3 month warrantee but not on consumables...not sure if that also means clutch...
ive had the bike under 2 weeks.....
we will see......

Sometimes, all the stars line up and you get shat upon, maybe it is just coincidence.

If you have previous keepers details, worth a call and polite questions on their old bike, who knows what you find out.

Knowledge is power.

Also check with local trading standards and cab, incase they're known to them. Also if there's any ccj's against the garage. No point wasting time and effort on them if it gets you no where.

Go in be polite pleasant and covertly record what is said. You're not breaking dpa as you're a private individual, and you are using it as an aide memoire. Unless you disclose it to a third party; ie the internet, then you are breaking the law.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me. I bought a bike from a BMW main dealer here in France I picked the bike up and rode it home ... coming from a fireblade I wrung it's neck all the way home and the clutch let go every time at about 6k in the higher gears. Took it back the next day and let the guy know what had happened he then got one of the tech's to ride the bike and he confirmed the clutch was letting go. The salesman indicated that the thought the problem lay with the clutch push rod? We made an appointment for the bike to be checked out. I took the back the bike on the day arranged and they fettled her. I have no idea what was done BUT the problem has never re occurred. My advice take the bike back and let them know it is not fit for purpose you must have some consumers rights regarding the purchase just be civil BUT remember you have the ball at your feet you cannot just flog duff bikes and expect the buyer to tug their forelock and retire.

A salutary lesson to be remembered when buying a secondhand bike from a dealer on the very first occasion get it into top gear on a slight hill and wind it right up full throttle from about 3k right through to the redline several times if the clutch is goosed it will let go at about 6k . If its goosed take it right back straight away!

Does the 3 month warranty that car dealers have to honour apply to motorcycles too?

I think you will find its six months.. If you buy from a dealer they would have to prove that the fault wasn't present at the time of sale -that is almost impossible so in effect they have to repair any fault that appears within 6 months

Your money back or a full repair. I think you will find that is your right. A dealer cannot get around this by offering warrante . They cannot take away rights by doing this.

thanks all with your input....
lets see if this dealer honours those rights....

Looks like you've already chosen the correct path, but to give you more weight when you talk to them a slipping clutch can be a bigger issue than a clutch issue and much more expensive. You paid good money so everyone right to expect it to be right.

A clutch is not really a "consumable" as the can last over 100,000 miles, Oil is a consumable, brake pads are consumable, so I think the dealer will have to have this put right at their own expense

Worn clutches are not generally covered under warranties.
I have known people who could see a clutch off a lot sooner than 100k miles.
i'm not saying that in this case the OP wont get a result from the dealer though.

Happens all to often, bike gets traded in with a not too obvious fault. New owner and dealer get a nasty surprise. It's not nice. :(
