Just a quick question on the Quest....

Is there any way of connecting audio out from the Quest with a standard Ram-mount unpowered cradle (i.e. as bundled from gps world)?

I was expecting a jack socket or similar but it appears to be only via the cradle contacts. Or am I being dumb?

NO!..........

............is the easy answer to that Dreamer.
One of the reasons the Quest is so small is that it doesn't have an amplifier inside. It's built into the cables or car kit (whichever you use)

Sherpa ;)

Sherpa is right .

Either way if you want audio you will need to have a Garmin mount and their cable ass'y or if you've got the RAM GA15 then it needs QPAC (get from gps warehouse in UK, or via RAM USA to US resellers).

The audio is picked up on the Quest's contact pins and as a thru port to QPAC with a female jack socket.

I have yet to hear of any cable that will get audio when using Quest in battery (non-charging) mode.

Thanks guys,

I wanted to feed the Quest audio into Starcom1, but I think I'll leave it as 'visual only' for now... been buying far too many goodies lately!

Dreamer - do not despair all is not lost just yet.

There is a possibility to make QAC a hybrid of QPAC so you have the box to mount between RAM GA15 and diamond base, with connector pad and short lead with female 2.5mm or 3.5mm jack. This means no power lead or Vreg chipset, so it may be QAC-25 or QAC-35. This will allow audio output though Quest will operate in battery mode only.

If other user's are wanting this option, then let me know in the usual way as it may become viable to introduce.

So dreamer, just dream on.

Thanks RAM-man... but why do you need the box? Could you not just supply the connector pad with short lead direct to an in-line jack socket? (and maybe a stick-on tie-wrap base to take the strain).

.. or, if it comes to that, could you just supply me with the bare connect pad to do DIY wiring? Having just recapped on recent expediture (Reyno Grill, FF50s, Quest and Starcom1) I'm not keen to spend more tens of pounds on hooking up the audio. Having said that, I realise that it's not cost-effective for you to sell very very cheap options...

I'll try my Quest without Audio for now, but will watch this space with interest - it's good to see a designer/supplier who's listening! :thumb

(PS: If you want someone to try out a prototype.... PM me ;) )

Its all QAC today !!

Dreamer...

We are thinking the same.

QAC will have the moulded connector pad (2 pins used, others are blank) and attaches onto the RAM GA15 cradle (same as QPAC version) and has a short lead with 2.5mm or 3.5mm female jack so earphone etc can be used.

This may be suitable for the Quest pedal power pushers as well.

Choices.. QAC-25 or QAC-35 and be approx £15 and be supplied thru gps warehouse at some point in time.
