This is embarrassing:

I've just got one of Les's smashing HiD kits and in a frenzy of enthusiasm decided to fit it to the bike.

It's come all beautifully wired up with ballasts fitted to bracket and pre-drilled and fitted plastic caps for the back of the headlamp unit.

However having less mechanical aptitude than my cat I have immediately hit a problem. How do you get the HiD bulb out of its little protective plastic case? I've unscrewed the main bucket bit, but that leaves the plastic grooved 'lid' still on the wire side of the bulb.

Does the bulb disconnect from its socket? Doesn't look like it to me.

All suggestions (and, because I deserve it sarcastic comments too) welcome.

Just snap the cap with a pair of pliars. Be caefull not tp damage the bulbs. Long nose pliars do the job nice and easy:clap:clap

Don't take this the wrong way, but should you really be fitting the kit yourself:mmmm

This little "feature" surprised me too, but it quickly became bleedin' obvious that force was needed to extract the new HID bulb from its container. Don't do what I did - and drop a fragment of the shattering perspex into the headlamp bowl - WITHOUT NOTICING until the unit was back in place. :blast

Apart from that, a piece of p*ss. :thumb2

Thread it all the way back along the wires, past the rubber boot, and off the other end of the cable connectors.

You may have to reverse this process to get the cover from the back of the headlamp on too (if the hole you drill in this is also smaller then the bulb base).

Be careful not to touch your nice new HID bulb with your fingers, and if you do, clean it off with a clean cloth before fitting.

Errr....left mine on!!!

Errr, don't know if the world will implode but I left mine on! It all fitted so I thought whats the point in snapping it.

I carry my old filament H7 in the original covers for the burners as spares. Will it cause a problem that I left those things on Les? By the way, awesome lights, but don't need the full beam!!!!

And TNT are THE most persistent delivery company in the world. They practically broke down the door to make sure I got the parcel (actually they just tried to deliver 3 times in one day)

Don't see why not :thumb2

I Can See

Hi
Don't usually post in forums - just hover around in the background, listening and learning so to speak, but i had to just say what a top kit Les's HID set is.
Got my set delivered yesterday, full set including the spots on my '58 GSA.
Took the day off today to fit them and i must say, because of the high standard of the kit - including mounting plate, i had it done in no time. What a difference these bulbs are- well impressed.
And thanks Les, good kit and fitting destructions.:thumb

Me too!! Thanks for a top kit Les, had it fitted in about 3 hours if you count the time it took to re-route the wiring as I wasn't happy with it the first time round.

In removing the beak I noted that of the front two screws, the left one screws into a small L shaped bracket on the inside of the beak to which is attached a "spare" canbus connector. I take it this is for fitting fog or driving lights to my bike?

Mup.

... scratch that, apparently it's the temperature sender, which probably won't power my spot lights. :)

Les's HID Lights!?

New to this, but am very interested in getting HID (assume these are zenon type) lights on my 05 1200GS. Was being followed by a GS1200 04/54 yesterday that had very white lights and they could be seen from miles off! Mine are the standard BMW ones, which give off an acceptable, if yellowish light.

Many of the postings here speak about "Les" and I am not sure if "Les" is a person, or a company..

Please help, as i'm in the dark
