going to nurburgring and then up to dortmund in oct is their a route that i could take to cut out motorway to get to nurburgring thanks steve

Ok, sorry for that last one, just been to the 'ring and we did a mixture of both autbahn and side roads, I would have planned more on the side roads but only got the Gramin a day or two before departure - you have the luxury of time with you - get yerself a Garmin and plan the route before hand using Mapsource or use Google maos and print it out.

Had to have a serious squirt on the motorway back from Bastogne because travelling companion had had a shedful the previous night and fubar'd the schedule somewhat!

You can do the whole trip off the motorway but assuming you're crossing at Calais I would stay on the motorway until you get to the turn off the A4 to Eupen between Liege and Aachen. From Eupen you head via Blankenheim to Nurburg.

The A roads up to the Liege area are nothing to write home about and will take you a lot more time with little benefit in terms of quality of riding.

ViaMichelin will route you via Brussels to Liege but IMO you are better off going Dunkerque, Lille, Mons, Liege because Brussels can get very congested and you would lose time. The mileage difference between the two routes is negligible.

I can recommend the 'Pistonklause' restaurant at the Hotel am Tiergarten at the 'ring. Have a great time:thumb2

Look for the 258 once you're in Germany, all the way to the ring. Good road!! :thumb
