anyone got experience of O2 broadband?

very good deal available if their ADSL2 LLU kit is installed at your local exchange.
up to 8MB down, 1.3MB up, unlimited usage, £12.50 pm for anyone, £7.50pm if you have an O2 mobile.

i'm on n old £24.99pm broadband deal which looks a tad dear these days  out of contract on orange, and fancy an O2 iphone so it seems like a no brainer.

but what are they like?

Still not got their kit in our exchange, but might be tempted to sign up on my second line when they do, and then dump BT at some point.

they score very highly in the dslzone comments section.

shugie: you'd probably get near their 24mb downstream :)

O2 Mobile coverage good

Pro's

I am on O2 and the rest of the family on Orange. I get better signal coverage on the O2 than Orange. The O2 has free calls between O2 numbers you have to pay more to get this with Orange.

Almost impossible to talk to a real person on the phone. Orange is better in this regards which would worry me if I needed support with Broadband.

Voicemail is frustrating with O2. You cannot listen to the messages in the order in which they were received you listen to the newest one first. Annoying for me when I am trying to workout a sequence of events.

As for iPhones, I sent mine back as I could not get on with the touch screen especially when it was sunny. However, the kids loved it, so maybe it's just me.

bit concerned that the support is worse than orange. takes about 1/2 hour of button pressing to get to anyone human.

i've read a lot of praise for their BB support. always the way at the start.

it's like when a new takeaway opens. you always get huge portions for the first couple of visits. doesn't last

ps. not too worried about the sun. i live in england :(

oh bollocks Cookie

I just looked at the dslzone website and did the speed test on mt BT Broadband, .48Mbps when I am paying for 8Mbps. Less than 7% of what I should be getting.

I was happy until I read this thread and now think I am getting ripped off.

O2 gets good reviews and it mentions they have a UK call centre dedicated to BroadBand. I have 6 months left on this contract and will look at O2 then.

Try that speedtest again, preferably outside the hours of 5PM to 1AM, you could be being 'traffic managed'
If your speed results are majorly different outside of those hours I mentioned then this is most likely what is happening

I can couch for O2's coverage and reliability. Have always had O2 (previously Cellnet?) since 1989 for work phone. As work was getting anal about personal calls, i recently got my first ever paid-for-out-of-my-own-pocket phone. Chose O2 and got a free Blackberry Pearl, 200 mins 400 txts unlimited email/web for £30 pm. Phone is excellent as my home email is pushed to the device, really useful as we can't access webmail from work either.

Service has been good when I need to speak to someone and the online tools are pretty good too. I'd recommend them and the phone.:thumb2

Only needed to call 02 for the phone twice and both time spoke to UK support. Eveb had a phone go bad but this is sorted by RIM (Blackberry) and even that went fine.

I wouldn't be saying no to O2 because of support issues, and Plusnet are impossible on the phone I only ever bother to contact them now via their portal & forum.

In fact the only reason I haven't done it is simply a case of roundtuit as even allowing for the loss of referral income from Plusnet they romp home on price.

O2 shop's pitch to me for O2 bb was UK only support.

I might see what they want to do over an iPhone (new airtime contract) and BB package ;)

well, i've signed up with O2.

only difficulty is that all the decent variations on my name are taken, so choosing a login took fecking ages.

went live on adsl2+ with O2 Broadband this morning.

used to get synced at about 3700/448 with Nildram on bt kit (ADSLMax).

when nildram got bought be tiscali and they put LLU kit in my exchange this rose to 5200/860

now synced with 02 on their basic package at 6790/1118 :bounce1

there is a training period i believe, so it might lose a bit off that, but it's pretty good for my rubbish bt line :)

just spoke to very helpful O2 support who reduced my monthly bill to £7.50 as i now have an O2 phone as well.

only black mark that i can give is a warning email in response to my request to port my old number over to the new phone.
"very busy" apparently. something to do with heavy volume of iPhone requests :augie

their email's a bit of a bugger though. taken me fecking HOURS to make it work with a third party email service :spitfire

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating but...

...so far so good.

With UK Online now, can only offer up to 2 meg where I am, currently on 1 meg.

Got an email from O2 saying their kit is now at my local exchange and they can offer up to 16meg for the same price as i'm paying now as i've got an O2 mobile.

So, phoned UKO yesterday, MAC code arrived in 4 hours.

Applied same day online for O2 (after swapping emails 2 hour turnaround, they say my line can support up to 17.8 meg!!).

Have had a few texts from them already saying changeover day will be next Friday, free router will arrive tomorrow and that there will only be max 1 hour downtime.:thumb

Experience so far is that O2 have got the proposition spot on, but will reserve final judgment until I'm sat here next week with my new superfast connection.

Now, I get about 0.9 meg download, 0.3 meg upload, so even if O2 is only half of the max promise, I'll be happy for the same money.

:D:beerjug:
