My 02 R1150GS has developed a really annoying ABS fault.

When I switch on the ABS will operate normally. If a ride for a bit then switch off, when I re-start the ABS lights flash alternately, ie ABS switched 'off'. If I then restart, sometimes the ABS works, sometimes it dosen't.

Occasionally the ABS lights both stay illuminated following a restart, although the brakes still work ... normally the ABS kicks in at about 3mph and the lights switch off.

During the winter I didn't use my bike for a while due to injury, and the battery went flat. I managed to resurrect it with an Optimate and now keep it on occasional trickle charge.

Could it be something to do with the battery? Crampie at Rydales reckons that the battery needs to be in tip-top condition to power up the ABS.

WTF is going on?? :nenau

Try turning the ignition on - then waiting 3-4 seconds before hitting the starter button .

the ABS system checks the battery voltage when first switched on. If it happens to be checking the voltage at the same time as you press the starter - bingo, no ABS .
