sometimes when riding at low is speeds say 10-20mph I feel a definite knock through the forks especially when turning such as at a junction. Some days it happens a lot other days it never happens. No movement in front wheel all brakes recently serviced with full front caliber rebuilds and new hoses but did this before that. any ideas or am I paranoid :blast who said that?

Try checking the bearing that lives under the plastic cover on the top yolk.

I have had a similar noise from time to time. First time it happened I stopped and checked the bike at the roadside. It has done it off and on, but only on rare occasions, for several years now I will take the advice of Steptoe and look at those bearings. Anyone got any other ideas?

Brake pads will knock around if cheap set without spring wire on them

Spring is separate from pads, in my case good quality pads fitted and on the rare occasions this happens the noise does not go away if I use the front brakes.

I think Steptoe is referring to the ball joint. If that's worn then it could cause a loss of precision handling at low speeds (how is the low speed handling?). Not sure why it might knock unless it was really badly worn or the nut had loosened a little (god knows how?).

I'd also take a careful look at the rubber gaiter under the bolt, between the yoke and tele lever. It could be hard to see a split, but if it's been dry for a long time then maybe that's enough to cause your symptoms?

Don't think so, he said "lives under the plastic cover on the top yoke" That's not the ball joint.
