Hi all. GS 1200 2010. 6000 miles, just serviced 100 miles ago.
Intermittently, when sitting at the lights and waiting to pull off, when i go to release the clutch, the bike almost has no power. I quickly have to pull in clutch again to avoid stalling, rev the bike with a quick blip of the throttle and then take off. So far so good. It has now happened when changing down from 3rd to 2nd at approach to a give way t junction. I never came to a complete stop so when I went to let the clutch out and take off in 2nd gear, there again, was a miss in power that I was not expecting. This did cause me to wobble a bit and worry. When I say a blip, I mean a little tickle just to get the sound up (maybe 2500 revs, quickly?)
What I want to avoid is having to blip every time i change or want to pull away. I mean I shouldn't have to give it a little tickle just to make sure the power is there. Bike idles at around 1200 and this problem occurs mainly when bike is warm. Afetr a long ride to France last year I had the same problem and took it to same dealer. They assured me things had "gotten a little out of synch#" and reset it. Problem seemed to go away, then had the 6000 mile service. Now problem is back and dealer is saying they have checked it and found it to be fine. So any ideas? Did delaer do anything 1st time?

I am a newbie to the world of all this mechanical stuff so I have taken my bike to the delaer and tried to explain. I don't think he quite gets it..Bike is still there. Ideas anyone?

Sounds like you just need more revs on before starting to let the clutch out.

:)

MMM my thoughts the same when it happened first time..

I do use the throttle to get out, but if it happened once I would blame me. When it happens twice I blame me again. When it happens again...you know its not you. I did wonder though. ALso it happens from 3 to 2 when rolling so that shouldnt be the case...

I'm guessing there may be two issues here though they could be related. A couple of times I've experienced the same issue when pulling away. I've put it down to idiocy and not having enough revs but I've never been completely convinced. However it has happened so seldom that I have ignored it.

I have experienced quite often the engine stalling when slowing and changing between 3rd and 2nd. If you search, you will find a number of threads (one was quite recent - within the last couple of months). I think it does tend to be more pronounced after a service (say once every hundred miles or so) and then settles down and goes away. Neither dealer or I can work out why.

I have a 2010 GS and commute every day. About once every 2 weeks I get a splutter and near-stall pulling away from lights. Used to put it down to me but I think it's a minor bike-issue.

Not sure if it's related but I got a text from the dealer this weekend to say that my bike is due a "camshaft sensor recall". I am a techno-numpty so have no idea whether the 2 may be linked.

Wow, call from dealer. Cool

Thanks. Yes, strange one. I find it hard to explain to the delaer, and they make you feel like a techno numpty when you use words like blip, and try patronise a bit. Might be tempted to call and ask what and the recall issue. Thanks guys.

Get your dealer to reflash the software on the BMS-KP unit that will sort out the stalling issue along with the cam sensor mod. They can still stall after the sensor mod which is why its important to reflash the ecu

flash software

Thanks, I will do. Read today re the camshaft sensor recall on some models. Sent dealer a query re this too.

Adventuredon Calterdon of Inverness did Cam Senso for me as I had same problem get your dealer to call and ask number 01463 236566 ask For Brian Srvice Manager.

Ok., they have toild me the cam shaft sensor was done at the first 600 mile service. It's not that. They have also synchronised the bike again and have said to come collect it. I ll monitor and let you know. Thanks for all the help

Dealer

Hi yes, dealer is park lane and servicing is done at battersea. Spoke to the guy yesterday and they have reset the synch on it. They say it might have happened when the lady knocked me over. I wont know if it is fixed until I ride it or test it out as some have suggested. I did ask the dealer to reflash the unit. I have made it quite clear that I will simply return bike again if it is not corrected.

Ok, so bike has now been collected and tested through the usual Saturday morning traffic around tooting (nice...not) Morden, Clapham and a spurt down the A3.Handles and runs a ton better. No hesitation now when moving off, no near stalls. Yes it is still a bit lumpy at slow speeds but as i have come to realise, it is the same on all boxers. But I am convinced it was not me, so the stall seems to have disappeared. I will continue to monitor but man o man what a nice bike they are to ride. So much power when you want it and a great sound too.

Mine was doing similar symptoms last year and had the dealer puzzled on a short trip to the mechanics bay on a Saturday morning. The did quickly prove the issue was only affecting one cylinder and not injector or spark/coil related. They kept it for a week though and managed to narrow it down to one of the lambda sensors misreading. Probably one of the cheapest engine/drive affecting parts on the whole bike but also one of the simplest so not easy to monitor for a misread instead of an absolute failure.

Obviously as yours seems to be running OK now, probably not this so just a comment for others (or if your problem comes back)

Oh and my R1100S did something similar when when one of the Throttle Position Sensors failed. This one was identified by a dealer a lot quicker and quickly fixed.
