Occasional time clock reset??

Anybody suffered from there clock resetting ie 00:00, happened twice so far and always after starting.
Any thoughts

Battery about to expire or starter drawing more power owing to being gummed-up or about to shed its magnets - terminally.

On the starter thread it does sometimes stick after starting, for a millisecond it kind of hums???

It,s just part of the bikes character and all you need to do is reset the clock ....

Especially if you plug your bike into an Optimate (other brands are also available) which disguises a nearly fucked battery just enough for it to convince you that everything is hunky dory, just before it fails on you completely and leaves you stranded without prior notice.

Resetting the clock IS prior notice....take heed!!!

Clock Reset ?

Mine did this now & again when I first bought my 1100RS.The ABS warning lights lights would also flash.I kept the battery in the bike for over a year & it never failed to start the engine.
I fitted a new battery last November & have n't had either problem since.
So I guess it's up to you ?

Not really having a go at the OP - but the weather is getting colder and suddenly the board is full of posts about dodgy starter motors, clocks restting themselves etc.

Your battery needs to be 100% going into the winter...

do you also have ABS on bike and if it fails too on starting i would say battery

ohh and my 6 year old odessey battery failed last week

PPS ....... Do you have HID's , the ballast can cause the rider display to freeze or re-set .......

I've had the same problem for over a year at least. Last week I took off the starter, stripped and cleaned it and all the terminals/connections. No longer have the problem. It could have been the battery on the way out as its over 6 years old but so far some of my time has saved some of my cash

I had same problem and found the grease plate in starter loose

The clock on mine resets only when I start it with the lever pulled (the one that isnt the choke but gets called one and only increases the engine idle speed).

I tend to start it then pull the lever. But my battery is on its way out I suspect, so will be replacing mine soon.

Sounds to me that its pretty much a unanimous conclusion that the battery is fooked....

Will get it sorted but this happened once about 5 days ago and before that in the sunny weather in August so don't think it's a winter battery just a knackered one.
