OCR Software - any recommendations?

Need to buy some Optical Character Recognition software to scan all our present operating manuals (about 2,000 pages), & get them on disk so that we can incorprate updates as they happen.

No chance of getting the digital copies from whoever printed the manuals?

Unfortunatly not, they are manuals (in house) built up over the years by the previous business owners. Some are hundreds of pages long but require only a few words per page changes.
swmbo has been typing long hand onto pc but is starting to whine a bit

Do you know anyone with a scanner, something like a Canon f'rinstance ?

They come with OCR software....hint
