Hi all and happy new year :beerjug:

I had my GS parked up for a couple of weeks and it was hooked up to an optimate as well.

I went to use it for work last night and it turned over and started but sounded like it was running on one cylinder. The only other time it sounded like this was when i had disturbed the throttle cable when tank was removed.

I have not removed the tank but this was how the bike was running.:nenau

While scratching my head and cursing about being late for work it started running normally again. :nenau

Any ideas my learned friends :)

My HP2 did exactly the same just the other day.
Had been in the garage for 3 weeks on the optimate. I had it rpopped to make sure the oil was not all in one side.
Started it and it sounded like a cylinder had dropped out the sump! Then it cleared and rode fine...........

til 2 miles down the road and it packed in.

It appears to be the battery. Even though it now starts off the key the drain from the lights and grips were too much for it.

Its going to Motorrad Central when they re-open on 13th July 2008:rolleyes: thats unless its a Monday in which case it'll be in the next day. They shut on Mondays too.

Just as well as its not a bike I need every day to commute:mmmm

Surely that'd be the alternator -if it starts, battery will be OK ? If lights etc are too much drain, then I would have thought the alternator wasn't providing the necessary juice to keep battery topped-up whilst running ?
I'm sure someone who knows better than I will sort this out !!

You're not going to use it before July 13th...that's some holiday they have.....:bounce1:bounce1:bounce1

Nope - even if the alternator is fine but the battery is fecked, all the 1200/HP2 derivatives shut down.:nenau

What a very clever modern electrical system.

I thought it was too simplistic to use straight logic in these matters !!! Well, is that meant to be progress on a "go anywhere, do anything" kinda 'bike ??

I have the original Gel battery installed and even last winter I noticed if it was very cold the bike would turn over slow and the clock reset befor firing up.

It still fired up on the 3rd / 4th turn of the engine.

This winter it started again... about 2 weeks ago on the last cold snap... so I bought an optimate to keep the battery topped up. My bike is kept outside but now under a leantoo :)

Will see if it happens again as another cold snap forecast from tonight

SNOW
