Odyssey Batteries - Any Good??

I have a spare odyssey battery in the garage given to me by someone who wanted to put a genuine bmw battery on their 850r????? have left it on a battery tender for years and use it to jump start everything from bikes to cars to at one stage a transit twin wheeler.
As for the Motobatt batteries I have one on my high compression big bore gsx1100 katana and after 12 months it still spins it over very well , have my doubts about its longevity but we will see

Odyssey

I have an Odyssey fitted to 3 bikes and they are very good you will not go wrong with buying one.

How they compare to other brands is difficult to messure however you can install one of these and feel satisified that you have a tried and tested product that works well in a big twin.

Can't you buy the BMW (Exide) OEM replacement for way less than an Odyssey in the UK? My original lasted almost 10 years then failed gradually, only reason I landed up with a Motobatt was the ludicrous price of the BMW item here in the land of Kupe.

I recently bought a Odyssey Battery PC535GS modified to fit my 2007 R1200GS GSA, was tricky to fit, very tight and cables needed re-routing, but started fine. Then left bike in garage for a few days and the thing doesn't even click now! I kept the old OEM battery going by using Optimate 4 but didn't think I'd need it on the Odyssey just yet! Fault is still under invest, so won't comment on Odyssey just yet, but any top tips will be gratefully received!

Sounds like a parasitic drain on the battery, It is not unknown for canbus systems not to shut down completely on cars, not sure if the same applies to the system BMW uses on their bikes. Can be a pain to find and being intermittent and shuts down when tracing it if you disconnect any wires. Neighbours new Audi had similar problem it took the dealer about a year to finally locate the problem.

Hope its just a faulty battery but the Qdyssey ones are normally top notch.

i allway's get my batteries from a local auto-part's shop, last one i bought was for my k75, not a odyssey or motobatt, it was meant for a mobility scooter, £30.00, still cranking 3 year's later when i sold the bike, if the battery die's on the gs, i'll be back there to by another one,

They don't seem to like going flat. i've had one on for 2 years and its gone flat a couple of times. now won't hold a charge for even a couple of days.

Not worth the extra IMO, espcially as you have to bugger about to get them to fit.
They're also not compatible with earlier Optimates.

I have now Landport battery in both bikes. Brand isn`t very well known but theres some much happy users with them here at Finland.
I was a bit suspicious with it at first (as the pricing is very reasonable), but they seem to work very fine. They claim that acid in these is very strong and it gives a lot power for cranking.
