Odyssey batterys & Canbus chargers

Just replaced my battery on my 2005 1200GS with Odyssey battery PC535GS (R1200GS & R1200GSA) from Motorworks.
I used to charge the old one using the Canbus charger through a socket connected to a C-Tek fuse panel that is directly connected to the battery.
Problem:-
The Canbus charger will not now go to the green light and stays on the 2 thirds amber light.

Is this going to be a problem for me ?

I found the same with my Optimate when I put an Odyssey battery on the R1150GS. I didn't think the Optimate was ever going to show the green light but it eventually came on a few days later.

I've had the battery fitted to the bike since 2004 and still use the same Optimate. Only if the bike has stood idle for 8 weeks or more, just to top it up a bit. The Odyssey is very good at holding a charge and does not seem to go flat if left, except for the very small current being drawn by the LCD panel on my bike.

The Canbus lights have moved to green overnight. Perhaps it'll be OK then.

FWIW Optimate is not an approved charger for Odyssey batteries.

I have an Oddessey battery after two years with the BMW original - the original Battery needed charging after only a few months (regular weekend rides only so it was pretty much expected) since fitting the Oddessey 2 years ago I have never touched it with a charger and never missed a beat. My advice - dont charge it until you need to.

I do have an optimate loom fitted to the battery but I now use it for tyre inflators or air bed pump so that I dont have to piss around with all that canbus voltage regulator malarky - you can get the connectors from Maplins so I now have all sorts of shit to fit the plug......

FWIW Optimate is not an approved charger for Odyssey batteries.

Any Optimate is okay for topping up any 12V battery. It's just putting electrons into a storage device in the same way that your alternator does when you ride along. This has worked on my bike since 2004 with a mk1 Optimate, used once or twice in the winter if I don't use the bike for a while.

Early Optimates won't recover a fully discharged AGM battery like the Odyssey.

The mk4 Optimate is suitable for AGM batteries. See
